You all are making me look into this whole striper thing. I caught my first 2 by luck this year – right place right time. I give warning on this. Do not cast to a striper with the 5 wt you keep in the car.

Like your American Express Card… Dont leave home without some variation on these flies.

And a good starting fly box to give dad on Father’s Day…

    ADAMS… Some and many variations
    Elk Hair Caddis
    Stimulator
    Royal Wulff
Partridge and Orange – Soft Hackle
    Hare’s Ear
    Pheasant Tail
    Prince

I know I am opening myself up to abuse here… but, and when I can find a white cape, (some one tell Dr Tom Whitting to grow more), if you PM me your post address, I will tie a few and post them to you…

    Hides and Waits…

One Proviso, I have to see pics of the fish you take with them…

I might tie up some of those as well, but I was referring to Kevin’s pic of the Red Ass Soft Hackle (RASH).

There are times when I think you could twist a little peacock hearl on a hook and catch some fish.

There are times when I think you could twist a little peacock hearl on a hook and catch some fish.  The RASH is a great fly. There are quite a few versions that are all very similar. I also heard it called the Royal Soft Hackle or Royal Softy. I’ve seen it with a tail as well, much like the rest of the Royals. THEY WORK…. They work when a Prince will not and it is easier to tie.

I tie them from a 12 to 18. I tie most of the softies in those sizes. Just a good middle of the road attractor sizes.
