This afternoon I picked up our daughter from child care, passed through the Rush’s drive-thru and picked up a strawberry milkshake for us to share, and then headed to a pond I have access to. I’ve fished this pond a couple of times and always leave thinking the same thing…that I prefer clear water ponds…but it seemed like a good way to spend a couple hours with our daughter. She was less than happy the other day when I left without her on a N.C. trout trip…and has been asking about going “feeshing” for the last week or so.

She is already partial to Feather Light’s and Martin’s. There are worse ways to start. HA…

She was off to explore the pond shore.

IMGP1617.jpgI picked up this little largemouth on a small white popper and Hadley was all about touching this fish. She had zero fear of the fish at all…which certainly brought a smile to my face to see her so interested in this spunky bass.IMGP1618.jpgI do wonder if I am raising a “trout snob” since after we released this fish we had this conversation…

Hadley – “What kind of fish was that daddy?”
    Me – “A largemouth bass.”
Hadley – “I want to catch a brown trout. Daddy…catch a brown trout now!”
Me – “There aren’t brown trout in this pond.”
    Hadley – (said disappointedly) “Oh…”

She fought the second bass for a few moments…but was still trying to figure out how to reel the reel and keep pressure on the fish. She wanted to do it her self!

When catching slowed down…she was wading the shallows and was soaked before we left for home. I am just glad to see her so happy outside.

We’re thinking about sliding out on the Family Pond tomorrow afternoon in the jon boat…so we’ll see how that goes.

Don’t mean to derail the thread, but Rocca finished second to John Daly at the Old Course in ’95. The putter was instrumental in Rocca getting into a playoff with Daly, because Rocca made about a 100′ putt thru the Valley of Sin to tie and force the playoff. Daly was sporting the mullet in those days and married to the trailer honey. Rocca has never won the Open Championship.

Awesome stuff, I need to find something close by to get my son out and “feeshing”.

Golf? Who has time for golf. I thought golf courses were places that had lakes for fisherman to sneak onto in the middle of the night. Biggest bass I ever caught was on a night excursion to a golf course. And I didnt pay a greens fee..

Cameron, Great Post. Puts my future into perspective and makes me grin. Amelia has a rod coming with her name on it (really Kevin with Amelia’s name on it….
