Cam, how come you didn’t go with a Yakima Space Case? That way you would have been able to lock things up and your gear would be protected from the weather. I only know this because I too bought the little box thing you have and after a year or so I bought the space case.

Comparing the old Gore with the New Gore side by side the new Gore seamed to be a lot more supple. Part of that I think is due to it being less bulky than the old stuff. Granted I was comparing single pieces of fabric, but never the less it should have the same over all affect on the waders.
I think the wader that most impressed me was the ones that could be worn as a pant and then unzip to become chest waders. I will buy those for sure in the spring! That said I have a new pair of the G3 guide waders heading my way as soon as they are released. I just couldn’t pass up the deal they made me on them.

If you are planning a trip to Alaska I have a very good friend in Anchorage that I swear knows everything and everybody in the entire state. He is a great guy and he would go out of his way to make sure that you were taken care of just because you are a friend of mine. His name is Rich Owens and he grew up here in Deer Lodge. I am not sure if I can agree with Zach on this one. The fly shop that I do a lot of work with use to carry the Cloudveil waders. Use to being the key words there. They had so many problems with the waders leaking that they stopped carrying them all together. Plus I just got to see the new Simms line up for 2008 two days ago and the new waders they have coming out are very impressive and they come with a NEW Gore Tex that is lighter, more breathable, more durable, and more flexible. The new G3 is going to released in Sept. and I think it will be worth waiting for!

Bob, I think the rod looks great! Now if you want to see uneven epoxy you should see the first rod I built. I used a BIIx 9ft 4wt blank and it turned out pretty ugly. I quickly found out that I was my own worst critic. Most of the people I showed it to liked it and didn’t even notice the flaws. So my guess is that you are just being a little hard on yourself because the rod in those pictures looks pretty darn sweet.
Plus if it casts good and catches fish who cares what it looks like! 😉

I was just going through some photos on my camera and I totally forgot I took this shot! Riley chased a squirel up this tree the day we were fishing and I made him stay so I could get a picture. I thought you guys might enjoy seeing it.
This has been a really fun post to look back on guys! I have not had a day off since so I come back to it often to remind me of what it is like to fish for myself!
Cameron I am a little surprised that more people have not made comments on some of your pictures. That picture you took of the cutthroat being release from the boat is one of my all time favorites!

Ok guys, we have had two days in a row with some afternoon thunder storms and it has cleaned up our air here at the ranch and…….the fish are biting again! I fished this morning and in less than a half hour I had five fish to the net with lots of eats in between. So I can’t help but come to the conclusion that no smoke = fish. Lots of smoke = no fish. God I hope this clean air lasts!!!!!

PoudreRiver that is a very close guess but…..that is the CARNAGE Hopper. That’s bummer too. Now what am I going to do with that tofu? 😕
In all seriousness to everyone out there fishing hoppers right now the Carnage Hopper from MFC and the Chubaka Hopper are two really good patterns. The biggest difference between the two is that Chubaka has a pink parachute.

Drifter those are very cool shots! Did you have the camera on multiple frames per second in order to slow it down? Also just curious as to wether or not you were able to see this all happen with out the help of the camera?

Cam great additional photos you have attached there! Did you notice that was no fear in the eyes of those fish that PoudreRiver are holding? They must know that he is only a cheese eater! 🙂 (Sorry Poudre I had to get that jab in!)
I like the idea of a camo collar with spikes for Riley. Throw a bear banger on that collar and I think he will be one bad ass dog!
If Dave could always have that intense look on his face while navigating the boat I would hire him in a heart beat to be one of my guides next summer. So Dave if you are reading this post and you need a summer job next year give me a call.
Thanks for the compliment about my dog Malcolm. He is a very nice dog, but kind of a lousy fisherman! I guess you can’t have it all.

Good idea Cameron! My heart is telling me camo would look really nice on him, but Riley says he wants one with spikes on it…kids these days…they always want something to drive their parents crazy!

It was great meeting you guys and getting to know you during your stay. The cabin has always been and will always be a very special place to me and it is a very cool thing to share it with someone and have them leave feeling the same way I do about the cabin and the area around it! I only wish that the smoke from all of the forest fires would not have been so bad! When the air is clear around here it is even more beautiful then what you saw. I guess that just gives you an excuse to come back and see us!
5500 cui is a nice nice for a week long pack. I think bigger is better myself. The key is to not fill it up with stuff you don’t need just because you have the room! 😉 The main reason I like a bigger pack is you have the ability to get to stuff more easily with out having to completely unload you pack and then repack it.

Dave, Mr. Anderson was using a Loomis and I think it was a GLS??? Not 100% sure on the last part, but it was definitely a Loomis.

I agree with you Poundre the stuff works very well. Even better than duct tape! I have an old pair of waders that I loan to friends when they don’t have a pair and these babies have been battered big time! I think have used up an entire tube of the stuff and have started on my second. Cheaper than new waders that is for sure!
