Joel ThompsonMemberI have been experiencing really poor fishing on our creek lately that usually fishes very consistant. It has been extremely smoky here at the ranch lately to the point where ash is falling all day long from the sky.
So, the question I have for you all is…Does a smoky sky and a red sun put fish down?

MemberI have fished a lot of smokey days and had pretty good luck much like fishing on day when it is overcast.

MemberI have a place in Naples. It is in a gated community that borders in the back with the Everglades. When they get a forest fire, they try to put it out with bags on choppers that they fill out of the lakes in our complex. The lakes are full of red eared sunfish, so I am sure they scoop them up and drop them on the fire too. Bad day to be a fish. I am sure this puts them down.
Pictures of chopper and fire . They couldn’t put it out so they just let it burn up to the complex and turned on the sprinklers. Nothing inside would burn anyway – all tile roofs.

MemberZach could be burning and acrid sap from the Georgia Pine. That stuff is strong.

MemberScreen, and Re-search the entire area with small streamers…. They may have moved to find more buggy or deeper/protected water.. If the smoke plugs the bugs breathing thingys it could be wrecking the cycle of that nymph/fly/etc.. Streamers should work, but you need be where thier feeding or hiding.. Then when you find where they have moved to you have some options to use what thier actually eating.. .. 🙂 ..

Joel ThompsonMemberOk guys, we have had two days in a row with some afternoon thunder storms and it has cleaned up our air here at the ranch and…….the fish are biting again! I fished this morning and in less than a half hour I had five fish to the net with lots of eats in between. So I can’t help but come to the conclusion that no smoke = fish. Lots of smoke = no fish. God I hope this clean air lasts!!!!!

MemberSame thing yesterday morning on day one of clean air. Many rises but my man only got two to the net. It was refreshing to see the eats again.
Glad you got to fish “for yourself” this morning. I’m taking advantage of the lull in business by cleaning house, cooking burritos, doing laundry etc.
Getting ready to go try the Little Blackfoot where you suggested.
If I take a camera, I’ll get skunked for sure. I think I’ll leave it at home so there is no proof to dispute my story.
