What are fishing regulations like over there? Does one simply purchase a license like we do here, or is it much more controlled? Do you have any pics of the cherry and mandarin trout?

Yesterday I was reading about “water hauls” as well in Ed Jaworowski’s The Cast. It’s a great book and has helped me with some aspects of my casting.
DustyNice work! I keep telling you that you need to write a book, at the least a website with tutorials. I know I would be on it all day long! Whenever you set the ISO that high, what can be done to help limit noise, or do you just have to accept some because of lighting conditions?
D.I found the lenses. It will be about $1350 for the 17-40, 100 macro, and a battery grip. The 70-200 though was around $1600 I think. I am going to try to get the macro first, still relying on the 18-55 kit for now. Then I will get the 17-40. And lastly, the 70-200 will join the ranks. By then though, we may be seeing a new full-frame.
Thanks again for all the input guys. This can be frustrating at times not knowing which lenses will go with which bodies or which lenses will produce desired results, and I don’t get much help from the local camera store (Wolf) either. Oddly enough, I feel at times like I know more than some of them do, which is not much.
If you get the 17-40, the 100 macro and the 70-200 F4L IS, you would have a great set of lenses for fishing stuff.

Would all of these lenses work on a full frame in the future? As this is what I am planning for in the future, should I be only purchasing “S” series glass?

Is all the fur you are using cross-cut? If so, where are you getting cross-cut in those colors? Can you also elaborate on the rubber piece that holds the eyes, i.e. where to buy it or from what other material you made it.Thanks Neal,
DustyNice work! I guess the set-up I have can produce some good images. But I still feel the need to get another lens. I was thinking wider angle, but the other guys have helped me away from that. Maybe macro should be my next purchase. How do you all feel about the lens initially discussed: 50mm f/1.4? This is Macro? Is this an “S” series lens?

You are correct. Blogging and personal entertainment is currently all I do with photography, but I hope to do more in time. With this in mind, and not wanting a bag o’ crap either, I am trying to be meticulous in my purchases. I also debate even buying lenses as I am unsure of future bodies to be unveiled. Just trying to learn now, but I am also beginning to feel limited by this one lens.
D.Thanks for the help you two. So then, what are the major advantages of the 17-40 f4 L over the 18-55 kit lens, other than sharpness. It seems that they are relatively equal when considering the widest possible angle.
DustyDon’t feel bad, Tim. I ride a desk and live vicariously myself. But surely there are some places locally for you to throw around a line.

Kit lens is an EFS 18-55mm. So, 18 x 1.6 is, 28.8. If I want a wider image than what I have I need to get a 17 or 20, correct?Regarding the “L” series, is the $300 jump worth the money? Is it noticeable? does it offer more possibilities in post?

Hey David, I was hoping you would have some input here. We have all been talking about the 5D going away or the prospect of a new full-frame Canon, and I am trying to make my new lens decisions based on this. Kind of feels like a crap-shoot at times. How much should I expect to pay for the lens you suggest?
D.Thanks Paul, I appreciate it. If I come, I will have at least one other in tow, good people though. I just need to know the date, and then I can plan my strategy at the office. It is somewhat difficult to plan debilitating sickness 2 months out, but I will give it the college try!
