That is a gem of a quote, especially when read from a cubicle! Where did it come from?
D.I have heard of guys greasing their guides w/ vaseline, but I also believe petroleum products can break down the fly line over time. I also think Loon’s makes a de-icing product for our guides, but I have not used it.
D.She is smart, maliciously so, but I do not think I can train her to work a bobbin. If I could, she would be at the vise as we speak!
D.Oh I know…she reminds me of that every time I put her in her crate. You would think that she would get tired of yelping, but not this one. She has lungs to spare! When she starts in at 5 a.m., it makes an E-collar sound very attractive.

DustyThank for the suggestions, guys. I have seen those diffusers, David, and I guess it is time to look more closely at one. But I need to get the flash first. The images I was referring to were only taken using the pop-up flash.
I was trying to compose some shots similar to ones in Zach’s podcast. I had my subject between me and the morning sun, and I was trying to get in enough light so the subject was not blacked out, but as I said earlier, this backfired, and the reverse happened.

DustyI’d tell you more if I could; I just don’t know much about macro yet. As soon as I can get consistently good exposures, macro will be my next learning experience. Maybe by then you can tell me what I am doing wrong! 😉

I might be knocking on your door as well. As I mentioned earlier, my pup is 9 weeks old, and she has an attitude! She yelps, whines, etc. Plus, she thinks our ankles are her personal chew toys. I got the pheromone difuser, and it works for us, along with a litany of other tactics which combine to form a method of manipulating our dog into exhibiting desired behavior. But I am a noob at this dog stuff, so please, spread any knowledge you have!

I just got a pup myself, and I have been struggling to get her to stay quiet when he is crated. I got this thing called “Comfort Zone,” which plugs into an outlet and emits what is suppose to be the pheromone a mother emits to calm her pups. This, along with music, toys, a wind-up clock, and some doggie treats, has done quite well.
DustyI am not really talking sides on this issue as I agree with both parties involved, to some degree, but did I not see an add for a Bass Pro bait-casting reel on the second or third page of last’s month’s AA?
I do wish mags were not so heavily advertised in, but I know they are a necessity for publication. I like Zach’s idea for an all-inclusive mag, maybe published bi-annually. I would give $25 for a 200 page mag w/ all that different info. in it.

Kendal- I see the spots on the silver reel, but can you point out the dust spots you speak of in the other?

If I recall correctly from my flyshop days, the sage reels are held together by a compression fit, which I really never cared for. There is no latch or way of securing the spool to the frame. I cannot help but think that over time that fitting would loosen up. Just my opinion.As for the Batt. reels, I love them, have too many to count. I have beat them, rolled them across parking lots, drooped them and left them on sand bars, etc. and they work like new. And don’t forget the warranty that comes w/ them.
I do not own the Batt LAs, only mid arbors. I do not have the backing needs that a steelheader would. But, look at the literature for the MA and LA. Typically, the LA holds only 50 or so more yards of backing than the LA, for double the retail price. they have the same drag system. Granted the arbor is slightly larger, meaning slightly less line memory, but for me and my money, I would rather get one MA reel and two additional spare spools for the same money as one LA reel. If your backing needs are that great, go w/ gelspun, and watch your digits when they run!
