    unless your guides ice up i think you should be fine.

    sharp ice can nick the line.

    don’t think the silica in grass is sharp enough to wear down your line’s coating.

    Rob is correct; ice is the main issue.

    I have heard of guys greasing their guides w/ vaseline, but I also believe petroleum products can break down the fly line over time. I also think Loon’s makes a de-icing product for our guides, but I have not used it.

    When I fished for steelhead back when I lived on Lake Erie, we used to save our old dead lines for winter fishing.
