    Matt –

Holding in silver is especially hard and you do a nice job.

Nice! flat is good. You might consider going the other way though, using some directional light to add some drama. I did this shot on white of some extrusion dyes and the pellets they melt to extrude the parts.

Nice composition – and I think you’ve nearly nailed exposure.

That said – I find the lens dust spots very disconcerting.

And – on the silver reel, you’ve some spots on the 11 o’clock position of the reel that are screaming at me.

    Clone baby clone!

The angle on the Abel reel isn’t working for me. I like a perspective that is slightly looking down on the product. It’s a more natural view.

For the Typhoon, have the logo/text in a position that is readable. Right now it’s upside down and their logo doesn’t match how it is normally presented.

Great thread Matt, thanks for posting as it is helping me as well.

Kendal- I see the spots on the silver reel, but can you point out the dust spots you speak of in the other?

    Sure –

The black reel – first photo – 1 spot below the reel mount, and one light one about a half inch from the the right edge close to 3 o’clock.

2nd photo: one directly below the reel mount, and then the same one right edge.

There are also a couple spots on the reel faces too – very light, near the edges.

    Kendal,

You are right, I took no time at all cleaning up the reels, or my sensor and lens for that matter.
