MemberZach, I would pass the cost of film and processing through at 30.00 per roll plus my day or hourly rate. Otherwise a client could have you shoot all kinds of variations and you could lose money. The client pays for all cost. A lot of shooters sell themselves short because they like what they doing and most photographers are not good business people. Negotiate a good price for your work and remember the client is going to make a lot more money than you because of your photograpy.
John I had Photo Mechanic back in the late 90’s when I was shooting with a Kodak DCS 460. I downloaded the 20 day demo and it runs really well. You can shuffle through a bunch of images really fast and make your selects. I can see how you could shoot sports etc and get to you prime images and the process them pretty fast. Most of mydavid king
MemberI think its just a matter of getting use to and adapting to new tools. I was using Aperture and I started using the lift and stamp feature. You edit 1 image in a series color correct sharpen etc. Then copy or “LIFT” and “STAMP” apply those settings to similar files. You can batch in Capture NX. I was listening to a podcast from studiolighting.net called Lightsource. Its really good source if you are into lighting and photography in general. They interview different shooters and discuss technique etc. The last podcast the guy was using a program called iopener from imagefire.com it feeds images to screen for you to evaluate 1 at a time so you can edit them. When you went to South America and out West how many image did you come back with and how long did it take you to edit them Zach?

MemberI’ve read articles about fishing in New Zealand and they made a big deal about having a gray or green flyline. One other theory is if you fish big water exposed mostly to open sky use a light line and

MemberI think I saw one made by G. Loomis at a shop once.

MemberNikon or Cannon are the leaders in the market. Both have different camera bodies that share a wide array of lenses and accessories. I have been using a Nikon D2Xs recently its a nice camera but a lot to lug around. I think if I were buying a camera for personal use I would take a look at the D200. You won’t out grow it. It depends a lot on how much you want to put into it money wise. It adds up in a hurry but it might be a nice tax deduction if you can use it in your work.

MemberI’ve used a Folstaff for several years and I would recommend it. The Simms Staff looks nice but I don’t think its stout enough.

MemberI think they were going to use the proceeds for education in some fashion. Using education as red herring is pretty clever. Its hard to be against education. I found this story on the web.

I don’t trust these people to do whats in the best interest of the general public and hunters and fisherman.david king
MemberPR I have a smaller teardrop Brodin net but its deep and the fish line etc always got all tangled up and I quit using it. I think I will have to get one like yours. I found 1 last night for $89.95.
Thanks,
DMKdavid king
MemberIs the net like rubbery to keep from hurting the fishes slime coating? Where did you find it?

MemberI just put a Lamson 3.5 with a Clouser line on my 8 wt. The line works really well on the S3s and the reel is sweet. I am waiting on a spare spool to put a glow in the dark Rio Striper line on. Rio is also making the Sage lines this year. I guess thy got it goin on. Purple tippet oh well whatever works!

MemberMore power to you Zach! I was addressing what I thought were the probable motives of the person who brought up the code. You are what I have heard called a Poly Media Content Creator. You write you shoot do podcasts and video. I wrote scripts for videos shot them and shot stills and even wrote some ad copy. When the Mac and digital video and still cameras came along it turned the creative world upside down. Everyone can be a photographer videographer editor or publisher. This threatens people stuck in old paradigms.
Being a Lawyer you would probably enjoy Tom Zimberhoff’s program its very legal and you can download and try it out at http://www.zimberoff.com/photobyte.htm. As you accrue images it will help you manage and license them. I used it when I had my own business. When you get to be 60 years you can live of your stock librarydavid king
MemberThe more I think about this I would guess its about business practices. Most people starting out are just happy to get published, then they charge to little so they can compete with the established shooters. As they become established they start getting wise to the market and charge more for usage etc. There are good business practices like those advocated by the ASMP. If anyone is interested check out Photobyte by Tom Zimberhoff he can get you started right.

MemberI was curious as to what sort of “code” exists.

MemberCould you please elaborate on, “I have been breaking code among photographers who are attempting to “circle the wagons” against the oncoming digital wave of photographers” issue. I have made my living in photography for over 30 years and I am more than a little shocked that anyone would take issue with the full and free sharing of technique that I have seen demonstrated on this board. One of the greatest photographers I know of Ansel Adams said “I have no secrets of craft” and I feel the same way. Digital has changed things but compelling photographic content is what sells. Resisting the overwhelming tide of technology is futile. Embrace change, adapt and move forward.

MemberYou would probably have to go with a S3s. I don’t think there is any difference except that its blue.

MemberI have been fishing the Hiwassee for a long time and I use Simms boots with studs screwed in to the heel and I use a Folstaff. I busted my ass and dinged my Abel creek reel and barely kept myself from being swept downstream about 300 yards down from Fox’s cabin. The Hiwassee is a beautiful River but its tough to wade!

MemberI cast the 9 ‘ 4 weight and its really nice rod but it didn’t have me reaching for the Visa. I like the Sage SLT rods. They pack a little more power than the other medium fast rods and are really smooth casting.
I picked up the 8 weight Z Axis and I was really suprised at how light it was and how small the stripping guide was. It felt at least as light as a BIIX. -
