MemberI used a 5 piece LT 5 weight for 7 or 8 years and my son has it now. It has to be one of the best rods made.

MemberI caught a few rock bass below Chickamauga Dam while I was try out my new 8 weight. Nothing of any size though. They would have been fun on a 4 or 5 weight.

MemberThanks for the advice guys! If you were wading Mike what sinking line would you use? I was looking at the

MemberPretty good site! The videos are a nice touch. I think they make the best lines. Sage and Scott have updated sites now too.

MemberNikon just did a firmware update for the D2X that pretty much bring it up to the D2Xs.

MemberZach, Check out OLN tonight. Barta will be on! I think Houstons fishing show is on ESPN.

MemberI watched some guy from Utah on a video do that setup. If he had used a red ballon and painted a white stripe around it you could feel like you were 5 again and fishin with daddy. It looked like it would work good though and I bet you could suspend 1/2 ounce of lead under the ballon.

MemberYes Tred has been bashing the “Quiet Sport”. He caught a salmon on a 3 wt. trolled in the zone by a outrigger on last weeks show. He is loud and obnoxious. He stalked and stuck a grizzly with a camera crew and that takes balls. Now thats hunting! I watched Chris Dorsey shoot a grizzly in Russia from a tree stand over a planted oat field. Whats the point? Tred is like the guy who fishes only bamboo and dry flies I can respect both.

MemberHell Yeah! He would give it to him the HARD WAY THE BARTA WAY! I would love to hear the rant he would lay down on Jimmy Houston. Anybody got Treds email?
david king
MemberWe need to send this to Tred Barta Long Bow Wooden Arrow Big Mouth, but a sportman who believes in fair chase. Maybe he would go kick Jimmy Houstons fish kissing ass!
I couldn’t watch the whole thing! Maybe Jimmy will dynamite some fish in his next show.david king
MemberI fished a medium fast 5 weight for a long long time. Now I have several rods in various weights and actions. I can’t say they have increased my enjoyment of fishing but it has been interesting and enjoyable learning the different properties of each rod.

MemberThe price is pretty classic 640.00

MemberNice reel! I saw a Peerless knock off from Tea Stick for 200.00.

MemberI have a Scott S3 6 weight that I use with a SA Distance Taper and a Sink Tip line. You have to work out a little bit of line to to get into the sweet zone of this rod which starts at the back of the forward taper. I would think a rod like it would not be a good choice for what you describe as your conditions. The Winston or the G2 in a 8.5 or 8’8′ length seem like a good place to start. When my 6 gets back from being repaired, (nail not got stuck in the tip top and snapped the rod at the first ferule) I am going switch over to a Rio Grand line so it will load a little closer. The faster rods don’t seem to deliver heavier or more air resistant files as well as more moderate action rods it seems to me. Maybe Zach can comment on that since he has that new Heliply rod. If you need to deliver big or heavy flies a short distance I would think a medium action with a good weight forward line would be the thing.

MemberI have never fished for PFP fish but I have seen them on TV. I would guess that the Fly fishing Masters was shot on the Soque River or Dukes Creek or at the Brigadoon Resort. Huge fish in such small water seems kind of strange to me. Its like these game ranches in the west where you go to “hunt”.
Fly fishing is a highly specialized form of hunting for fish. We accept the disciplines and restraints of fishingdavid king
MemberI cast a 8’6″ 6 weight Winston a long time ago and I still remember what a nice rod it was. I bet the Scott would be sweet too.
david king
MemberIt varies according to how fast the water is moving. Bracket your exposure time until you get the effect you like.

MemberI asked a guy that owns a Flyshop that has quided all over the place about tiping. He gave me this advice. A good day 50 bucks. You caught some fish and had a good time. Caught some REALLY good fish and had a great time 75 bucks. Caught the fish of a lifetime and can’t wait to show the pictures to your freinds 100 dollars or more. Had a bad trip and the guide was a jerk tip them 10 dollars so they know you know about tiping but they suck.

MemberI just bought a Scott S3s 8 weight and I’m waiting on a Waterworks Litespeed reel. I can’t wait to get out on the water with it. Its a nice rod but demanding. I hope to get into some stripers soon. If you like a fast rod this is the one.

MemberI’ve cast the Helix rods and the Vector rods I thought they were some of the best rods I ever cast and I don’t know why I don’t own at least one. I have never seen anybody on the water with a T&T rod. I own 3 Scotts 1 Winston and 1 Sage rod and a couple of Sage and Abel Trout reels
