Thanks! I found a short video on Youtube and thats exactly the way it was being used. It looks like a perfect line if getting a reasonable backcast might be a problem, or if you need to load the rod within 20-25 feet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROWYZPaiNd4

I shot my last “professional image” April 4th, 2009 and haven’t worked a day since then. I’ve been in the “photography Industry” since 1974, and into photography since 1967. I didn’t shoot much small format photography, which is mostly what is discussed here. I was into large and medium format shooting home furnishings, models, jewelry etc.

Always a early adopter I jumped on digital convincing them to invest in the latest greatest hardware and business plans. The economy tanked pretty much killed commercial in the area I was working and it was a bleak position. The continual harassment for more production incompetent help, and something for damn near nothing was incredible. I was just trying to hang on until I could find something better.

I’m glad its over! If you are considering getting into the business of photography then be business like. Have a good business plan that will insure funding and execute your plan. Diversify and don’t really on just one genre or theme. Don’t be afraid to ask for reasonable

Nice shot! I can see a headline like “Healthcare Its In Your Hands”. The lighting is really smooth but a hair light on a boom would have added some more depth.

I’ve been using Aperture 3 and its a great program. Commit to it and you won’t be disappointed. I think it does 95 percent of what most photographers need as far as file management, image prep and editing and the slide show book features and web sharing are excellent.

Shoot raw in color and custom convert based on the color in the flies etc. There are some nice plugins that simulate the panchromatic characteristics of films. Nik Silver Efex Pro is really nice.

TIF has a really intense edgy modern design esthetic which is attention getting and I enjoy it. I get a kick out of the mix tape in every issue too. I think a lot of the content is interesting in the sense that you get a feel for what is going on in many areas of fly fishing mostly by participants. The writing is informative and adequate but you really have to be interested to read a big article online. They used a famous Diane Arbus picture in a collage which suprised me. Its the kid with the grenade.

Tethered is the way to go in studio. I’ve shot in Capture Pro for the Eyelike back and in Aperture with a Nikon. Its nice to be connected to a big screen and you can control some camera functions depending on what software you use.

When you bounce off the ceiling like that you get a nice smooth broad light like a huge lightbox. The bare bulb is really crisp like direct sunlight on a clear day. I’ve used a bare bulb flash with the power cut way back to add a crisp highlight on shinny fur and fibers.

I like it! Ansel would probably wonder if you gave like a N+3 exposure and a water bathe development in Pyro.

I’d like to see how your footage turned out! I like the idea of a “Motion product catalog” you could still have your product beauty shots but its nice to see clothing products etc in a quasi real setting.
