Have you ever considered a fixed focal length lense? I have shot Nikon for a very long time. The zooms in my experience are not as sharp as the fixed focus lense. When I was shooting a lot of 35 I carried 20mm thru 300mm. The 20 was very wide and added a real cool look to certain pictures. From what I have seen of your photgraphs you have pretty good wide angle coverage. Whatever lense you get shoot a couple frames at the widest setting and cycle through your channels (RGB) and see if you get a jump in pixel registration in the corners. I have a friend at Professional Photo Resources in Atlanta (PPR) His name is Steve Hendrix check them out when you get down there. They rent gear to pros and you could rent lenses instead of buying them. I have rented gear that I thought I needed,
like say a Hasselblad Super Wide or a special light and I was glad I hadn’t bought it. Good Luck in ATL.

The BIIX is a nice rod in a 4, 5, or 6wt. the 6 feels like 5 weight. With all the upheavals at Winston in the last year or so they have had some quality issues. I saw some pictures of guides out of alignment and some of the grips have been squeaking etc. They may have fixed all that. Check the Winston forum for more info. I wish they would get back to their roots as a company there was a time when they held the high ground. The Thomas and Thomas 5 weight Helix is a really nice rod that I have cast as well as the Winstons. There is a lot of good buzz about the G2s and the S3 is a horse of a rod. Try as many as you can you’ll find 1 you can’t live without.

If you put your rod together streamside a 2 piece will get you on the water a little faster. You could carry your 4 piece as a 2 piece when fishing locally. The only other concerns are the weight of a ferule up high and when you have more ferules it just more things to break or wear out.

Thomas and Thomas has come out with an Heirloom Series and Diamonback made some glass rods. I have cast the ScottbFibertouch its a sweet rod. Several people I know the fish mountain streams use a 7.5 or 8 foot 4 weight.

Zach thanks for the info. I’ll try to put it to use. Are there any certified instructors up in Ktown or Nashville. It would be interesting to get a few pointers from a pro. I talked to Lefty a couple of times at shows, what a great guy. I downloaded a couple of clips from arkansasflyfishing.com of some tournament casters interesting to see the rod speed and the timing of the hauls etc. I think my problem is use some wrist which lefty said was taboo, some others have said a little acceleration of the wrist adds distance and helps create the air foil loop that I want to achieve.
    Thanks,

In Chattanooga we have a couple of good shops and I support them. Sales tax in TN hurts on higher priced items available online. On a $1000.00 worth of gear you save 85.00 plus dollars and get free shipping. Local shops need sweeten deals and work hard on providing local knowledge, teaching skills and building rapport with customers. If you go anywhere and they don’t treat you with courtesy and respect they don’t deserve your money.

I’ll probably go to Laramie in late June or early July Trailready. Thanks for showing me all the cool Cloudveil stuff at the Shop. Simms better watch out. The only TCR rod I’ve tried is the 5 weight and for the money I’d have to live in Wyoming to buy one. I see new rods on ebay every now and then and you might pick one up for 60% of list, I might buy one then. I have 2 Scott S3 rods that I am fishing now a 4 and 6 weight

Zach I listened to the podcast and thought it was really good. I’ve tried the jerk strip on the Hiwassee using a uniform sink line and Kelly Galoup’s Zoo Cougar and White Zonkers with some good results while wading. The technique seems to get the attention of larger fish. Your guest next week, John Wilson was he on OLN over the weekend?

Well I suppose South Korea is somewhat more acceptable than China with all its attendant problems. Hopefully there will always be great rodmakers to support here.

I would like to know more about where TFO is made. Is it all in China or somewhere offshore,is anything done in the USA aside from sales? I like many people have stong feelings about outsourcing to China and India for many reasons. Maybe he could explain why I should buy his product because currently anthing thats made in China and India is a no buy as far as I an concerned.

Everyone on the list has industry sponsors, they already get paid to talk about fly fishing by some company. Interview them over the phone to keep cost down.
Maybe you could pick up a sposor for your podcast to help cover costs or ask for a small monthly donation like the guys on Fly Fish radio do. The great thing about a podcast for someone in the industry to participant is that a 100% of the audience is their potential customer base and they get to talk about fly fishing. The thing that might run into money might be bandwidth. There is a company that host for 5.00 a month for unlimited bandwidth.

I think Brien O’keefe would be a great interview. You can’t crack a magazine without seeing a picture of a fish the he has caught and shot. Great

dbunch, I live in Ooltwah and fish the Hiwassee as often as possible. I don’t have a boat and would love to float the river. I would like to learn how to row a drifter. Maybe we could fish sometime this spring. Photography is what I do for a living if you want to learn I can help in that area.

I don’t know why but finding things thru iTunes is hard sometimes. I have been using Macs forever but linking Podcasts must be kind of tricky. I finally found fly fish radio and subscribed to it. I listened to yours using quicktime and I enjoyed it. Good luck!

I haven’t done any print work in flyfishing yet. Being involved in photography pretty much all the time its nice to have a break from the camera when I get the opportunity to fish. I did get a Nikon 8400 to carry when out fishing etc. Its relatively small and you
