Carter recently said something in a rod post, and Zach’s last response to the Rod Help thread provides a good segue into this question:

I fished a medium fast 5 weight for a long long time. Now I have several rods in various weights and actions. I can’t say they have increased my enjoyment of fishing but it has been interesting and enjoyable learning the different properties of each rod.

I can certainly tell the difference in my five weight of 10 years ago, which I still have, and my new five weight.

I’m kind of laughing that you bring this up, especially with the razor analogy…..

Funny, I was messing with a blank over here and thinking similar thoughts after typing that up last night.

While we are at least close to the end of what can be done whith graphite it still has its weaknesses, I think this ultimately comes down to its, um, weakness.

Hemp…ummm…I am sure that once the narco lords get tired of smuggling tons of contraband over our Southern Border that they might put their heads together to design a new “hemp taper”.
