*A note for our American friends,
All of us here in Oz pretend to like and respect Al because he knows where all the fish get stocked and when..

It’s a balance though between being nice and finding out the good spots and being to nice and geting signed up for slave work at the hatchery during spawning time.. πŸ˜‰ ;D ;D

    Nice picture Ron..

The short answer is yes, you could do a lot with it in Photoshop, you can do almost anything if you’re willing to spend the time.

The truth is that it’s a lot of work and does it really need doing ?

I like the shot ( and all fishing shots ) as is, once you start messing around with stuff it’s easy to go to far and loose the things that make it real.

One easy thing that could be done is to blur the background a little more much like you would get if you shot it with a DSLR and a longer lens.

IMO it would make the angler stand out a bit more from the background.

I agree with you Zach, I’ll pay that kind of money for a line if it’s awesome and lives up to the marketing.
SA makes good product IMO, their lines are great.
(try a ‘Redfish’ on a Sage TCR6 to see what I mean)

I’ve asked the Australian Importer for one of the new Sharkskin lines to do a review..

in reply to: Getting kids into fishing/fly fishing #19251

    That’s all great advice.

The only thing I would add is about casting.
I think it’s a good idea to get some help with the casting lessons because sometimes kids pay more attention if it’s not their parent taching.
I’ve spent a fair amount of time outside over the last few years with my 9 year old teaching him to cast with mixed results, but when Morsie showed him some stuff he really got into it and since has been casting quiet well.

The plan this summer is to take him on a few 2 or 3 day trips where we fish small streams for a couple hours at a time mixed with other activities.
The camera and entemolgy kits you guys mention above are great ideas and I’ll be lloking into that as well.

in reply to: Small-stream technique #19185

I like short rods on the small waters, I think they give you a better connection to the fly and are easier to cast under the bushes and in the tree cover.
I use a Scott F703 where I only need short casts and a Sage TXL 7′ #3 where I might need longer casts.
Late last season I also got a 5’5 F #2 for really nasty stuff and it’s a very sweet LITTLE stick, a 12′ trout bends it right into the grip.

I don’t mind a longer 2 or 3 weight for open small water where a bit of mending can come in handy.
Last summer an SLT 8’2 #2 was my choice for that sort of fishing or when I want to use a very light rod on a river.

We have a lot of under fished very tight small trout water in Australia that most people drive right by because they don’t realise that they can be fished with a little rod and a bit of tricky casting.

I like the streams where the first section off the road is an absolute nightmare to fish – it keeps the suckers out !

    Nice shots Courty !

That area has some of the best looking trout water in Australia, pity the days Morsie and I went there it rained like buggery and we got a bit flooded out.. :-[

The Cod fishing down the mountain made up for it.. πŸ™‚

We should meet up there sometime this summer and hunt Hobbits.. ;D
