David AndersonMemberI thought this thread was going to try and explain RAP music ..
As I understand it, you talk crap at high speed to a song stolen from people who can actually sing, write & play music while hanging out in a big house with lots of expensive cars and loose women called ‘ho’s’ who seem to have forgotten everything their mothers did to free them from that sort of slavery.

David AndersonMemberA great start with the DSLR..
The 50 mm is one of my fave lenses, always has been, they’re great for getting down to what a shot is about.
I also love them wide open on shots like your rod & reels, it’s a great effect.Well done.

David AndersonMemberThe 24-105 F4 has fairly bad distortion at the extreme ends of the zoom, though on MOST fishing stuff you wouldn’t really notice it.
The 24-70 on the other hand is pretty good at 24 and great at 70, though as John said it sometimes isn’t long enough and is very heavy.I have a sneaking suspicion that there’s a new model just around the corner..

(seriously, good luck to her!)The shots are good, color & exposure look ok, if anything maybe a touch cold – not a big deal.
I would bet all the white in the clothing has thrown your meter if you needed a lot of push in the post.

David AndersonMemberI suspect Canon are about to upgrade the G9 so the price is dropping..
I’m thinking of getting one for all those times I couldn’t be stuffed lugging the big ones around.
Only problem with the Nikon from what I’ve read is it has a new raw format with limited scope instead of their NEF format.
I don’t understand their thinking on that at all – you would think they would want a common file so everyone already had conversion softwear.www.dsaphoto.com

The last is my fave because of the composition, it really leads the eye down the falls and around the corner.

The Lion is also great, nice color & texture and a different perspective from what you normally get.
Well done Nikon guy..

David AndersonMemberI’ve fished on the fringes of the park on one trip about 100 years ago, but never really been inside.
It’s one of the places I really really want to fish.
I’ve seen some small stream shots that give me sleepless nights.
One day..

David AndersonMemberYou could get one of the midrange zooms like a 24-70, there very good for the times you don’t want to change lenses or you want to travel light.
That sort of set-up is also good in bad wether where you have a camera under a jacket for the odd quick shot. The other would be a fast lens like the 50 1.4 for very low light or wide open shots.

David AndersonMemberThat lens by all accounts is an absolute honker, I hear they’re sharp corner to corner even at 2.8.. 😮
That would be all the wide angle you’re ever likely to need so maybe you should add a long zoom (80-200 ish) next.
Then you would have everything from 14-200 covered.
Fixed macro lenses (60 -100mm) are great for fishing stuff and don’t cost the earth as well.
Sorry, I don’t know the Nikon lenses very well, so can’t tell you what ones are better than the others.

The lens you ordered is a DX – isn’t that for crop frames ??
Would that work

David AndersonMemberJohn, that sounds like a good kit, I would add the 50 1.4 as a fast portrait, low light and product lens and maybe the 100 macro for close ups.
I think that would be an awesome kit..

David AndersonMemberI shoot people stuff 95% of the time and use Canon 1DsIII’s and prime lenses.
I tried a Nikon D3 a few weeks ago and it’s a nice camera, and well laid out, but the Canon eats it at low ISO for skin tone and general color..
It’s also no where near enough resolution for me – though they are bringing out a higher rez model very soon and I will be interested to give it a try.If I shot sports I would probably have to Nikon for it’s excellent high ISO performance and live with the low ISO.
Though I will say that the high ISO performance of the DsIII’s is very good and at 1600 ISO I can get very clean color and great contrast.Lens wise both brands are the best, Nikon have really good wides and Canon are great over 50mm.
You wouldn’t call one lens system better than the other IMHO.
One thing I will say, I would only have Canon or Nikon at the moment.

David AndersonMemberThose are good points John.
IS is one of those things in photography that can save your shots at the extreme ends of what’s possible, but comes at a price.
It’s right to ask the question do you need it for the money.
I need it once & a while for work where I have to come back with a shot no matter the conditions so it’s worth the money to me.
On the 200 end of the 70 -200’s it will get me a good frame at 250th and sometimes 125th of a second in low light.
Without it I would want a 500thwww.dsaphoto.com

David AndersonMemberIf you get the 17-40, the 100 macro and the 70-200 F4L IS, you would have a great set of lenses for fishing stuff.
David,
Would all of these lenses work on a full frame in the future? As this is what I am planning for in the future, should I be only purchasing “S” series glass?
D.All three of those lenses are full frame…

Yep, the kids eat into the fishing time, though my boy is getting into fly fishing and that’s as big a buzz as fishing anyway.
Last summer he did his first real day on the stream.
