David AndersonMemberI’ve had the Canon DsIII’s for over a year now and recently tried the Nikon D3x for a few days and I think I can say this about DSLR’s sensors – they have reached the limit of what most of the lenses can resolve and any future updates are going to get tricky if they’re just based on resolution.
More then new cameras, I would like to see some new lenses.. ๐

David AndersonMemberI’m trying to decide between a 5 or a 6 myself..
Here’s a review I did for Flylife magazine on the 5 – with some comparison to the TCR.

David AndersonMemberThe Lowepro Dryzone has a decent suspension system, and lots of internal dividers. ย It is designed as a waterproof photo backpack. ย But it’s pretty heavy, expensive, and gear is not too easily accessible.
I agree – the Dryzone has a good harness and is not bad in terms of padding ect.
The design of the pack is crappy in the extreme (IMHO :D) and they’re a real drag to work out of.
The zipper is also very problematic and comes apart with any pressure on it.
The Sealine above might work if you get a padded diver section from a camera bag (like a cheaper Lowpro) and combine the two.

David AndersonMemberNice shadows on the first shot and I love the long highlight on the second.
The light tent is good.. ๐
You do seem to have a very slight color cast – maybe a bit green ?
Not using auto white balance are you ?

David AndersonMemberI agree with John, a flash is a priority and you should have a good one.
Having enough power to do big daylight fills or big indoor areas is important. With tri-pods you can get away with a cheap one for most situations, but if you want to do merging, stacked focus or stitching, a heavier set of legs with a good head is more important.

I’m in discussions with my friend Quinny about going to Turangi this winter to remind the locals that Australia has their coach and, if I survive, fish a little.. ;D
I miss the big river and fancy a fling with the double hander.. ๐

Pictures always need a little bump to look good on screen..

David AndersonMemberย Maybe I should shoot some wide shots anyway and not worry about the trashy structures in the backgrounds… ๐
To correct myself – it would be a good idea to not shoot wide and carefully limit backgrounds if the backgrounds don’t fit with what you’re trying to express in the set of photos.
As an outsider (bigtime ;)) I would think it’s cool that you can catch fish like you guys have in an urban environment, but that might not be your intention.
I have also limited backgrounds on published stories about fishing as opposed to destinations so my favorite fishing spots don’t get found out.. ๐
