They certainly have been quiet for a long time..

I’ll keep an eye out for new trout lines.

Roy, no question the 810 (and 800E) sensor is awesome.
The camera is beautifully thought out as well with great ergonomics and handling.
The resolution, dynamic range and high ISO performance would have been unimaginable before the D800e, even in medium format digital.

    All good.

The thing is, it’s a lot of weight and a lot of that resolution is wasted at the magazine and almost pointless for on-screen stuff.
I would trade some of it to lighten the load, but would still want the wide dynamic range.

Also, my eye’s are not what they used to be, and an EVF might help.
Certainly, the split screen on the Fuji or the face detect AF on the Sony’s would make shooting some things easier than with an optical finder.
All that said, I’m still yet to try either a Sony or a Fuji – maybe they won’t cut it.

It always make me happy that food issues are given equal billing to fishing issues on this board.

Hey Zach, have you seen this thing ?
    Light 16 camera – Wired

What a DSLR (and lens system) get me is the ability to maximise technical image quality for most situations. Unfortunately, you’re very right when you say nobody cares anymore and with the exception of a couple old clients and magazines who bother to notice, there seems little point to me in dragging around the weight to get photos for Facebook or my blog or a gan Y bride who’s only knowledge of photography is based on her Instagram account.

I think my next camera system – and I am looking – will be much lighter if nothing else.

This morning I like the look of the Fuji XT-1 .. lol

Amazing stuff Zach – great shots !

Nikon/Canon are going to have to pull their fingers out and start putting these sort of features into all their cameras soon if they hope to survive.
    My DSLR’s don’t even have Wifi…

Now that this camera has been out a while, and the honeymoon is waining, I see more and more reviews where the cameras faults are being discussed.
A general feeling is that these morrorless camera, while very cool, are still dragging the chain a bit on creatures and function compared to DSLR’s.
The Sony gets mention for having odd shut-down periods or brief crashes and rubbish menu set-up.

I might sit on the fence a while longer.

The Fuji stuff interests me as well and I see there’s going to be a model upgrade soon that might have more resolution and possible a twin memory card slot.
The big thing about Fuji is the excellent line of lenses they have. Most are very highly regarded for sharpness and contrast and the price for the good primes is quite reasonable given their quality.
From what I hear, the EVF’s are very good as well.

Whatever comes next for me, this I do know, it won’t weigh as much as a DSLR !

    Not seeing them anywhere Zach.
Never seen one in the flesh, never run into anyone using one.

I think they’re a cool look, but are very expensive for what they are.
IMHO, Nikon missed the bus on this one.

in reply to: wading with rubber bottom boots #88108

IMHO, plain rubber soles are not very good.

I have Simms star cleats on guide boots and they were very good in NZ last spring.
The only thing they don’t stick to is some bedrock like Basalt, though with care I wouldn’t even call that particularly dangerous..
Felt would have been better, but is banned there.
On the bank, the cleats/rubber were much better than felt.
In a 2 week trip with lots of hoof work, the cleats near my toes and heals showed the most wear, but would do another trip.
