The Itinerant AnglerY’all –
We ought to fire this board back up, really, shouldn’t we?
Spent this last weekend fishing with Scott Kitchens up in the forest again. Absolutely awesome trip, one of my favorites ever. Found what we were looking for and more:

These worked well, but unfortunately I rushed the next morning’s cinnamon rolls and burnt the bottoms. I can do better!

Fall in the Appalachians is gorgeous isn’t it?

David AndersonMemberWow, looks like a beautiful place to fish.
Bummer about the rolls, but first world problems ? lolwww.dsaphoto.com

The Itinerant AnglerYou got that right, David. This is a river that gets some fish in the winter when they have a lot of rain and this winter is looking rainy. I’ve got my fingers crossed.

Clay SmithMemberZach,
Regarding the rolls what do you use to keep them off the bottom? I’ve seen enough pictures to know I’m not in your skill class but I use one of these and it has significantly reduced my scorch rate.

The Itinerant AnglerSee Clay, I am an idiot. Because that right there is an absolutely excellent idea, and I actually have a cast iron version of that thing which I should have brought and used. Next time we head up there I will absolutely try that and I bet it works.

Clay SmithMemberGlad I can provide some input somewhere.
I feel bad sometimes just sucking fly fishing knowledge out of everyone here and not having the ability to give back. Not bad enough to stop doing it though 🙂

The Itinerant AnglerWe ought to go camping and then we can at least put you to work. 🙂

David AndersonMemberIt always make me happy that food issues are given equal billing to fishing issues on this board.
It’s important to eat well whilst roughing it.. lolwww.dsaphoto.com

Clay SmithMemberI’d love to go. I just don’t know how y’all figure out how to get your trips in between the rain.

The Itinerant AnglerUnfortunately Clay we’re not trying to. We want the rain, actually. Did a little time this weekend as well:

That last one was actually a solid seven inches long — so snaky though. This area was dammed up by a big beaver dam complex but at some point it got breached and the beavers moved over to the next watershed (creating the pond with that little bridge about to fall into it). Brookies like this used to dominate the Appalachians — it’s fun to think about how it might be today if we hadn’t come along and cut the forests and thrown in rainbows and browns. Once upon a time there were 20″+ brook trout in Georgia…
