I was able to fish the Hooch again today. I decided to switch it up and use something besides a sulpher fly for a change. I used a fly I’ve never used before, a Hopper. The fish seemed to like it, but I still prefer dry flies over clunky foam hoppers. I guess if it catches fish I shouldn’t complain. The presentation just isn’t as nice.

Personally I love clunky foam hoppers. They never need to be dried out and rarely tear apart. Awesome job Mike. I should get out there and do that with you. Was it crowded?

Thanks Zach! I’ve done the section from the dam to settle’s bridge twice now. The dam area can get pretty crowded, but it’s clear for the most part once you float down a little ways. I’ve located some good spots above and below HWY 20 bridge. Let me know when you want to go.

Zach, very good point on the foam hoppers. I am beginning to love them as well.

I got into some hopper fishing this past weekend as well. It was a blast. Best thing was, they fish wanted the fly skated instead of on a dead drift. Because I was using a foam hopper, it stayed buoyant. Had I used something like a Dave’s Hopper, it would have drowned and been useless.

I love the freedom of fishing foam flies.
On the smaller overgrown creeks here they rule for ease of use as much as anything else..
