Considering that my last post was made December 26th just before I left Argentina, I realize that it has been a while. I haven’t seen my home or my dog since a few days after that, and the way things are looking, it will be early December before I get back down there (headed to India for Mahseer here shortly). In the meantime though, its been quite a ride. I was guiding in the Bahamas most of the rest of the winter, made a side trip to Cuba that turned out awesome, had some down time in the Peruvian Amazon, then headed up to Kamchatka and just finished up guiding the summer season there. Looks like its a few too many photos to try and post here directly, but anybody interested in a peek at what any of that was like can check it out on the blog – http://www.justanotherdayinpatagonia.com

Hope everybody’s doing good; I’ve got a few weeks in the office here and will try to catch up with all the posts from the forum that I missed, then I’ll be back on regularly when I get home for the start of the Patagonia season in December and hopefully online regularly again.

I guess that’s one way to put it. I’m definitely looking forward to getting back to Patagonia, even if it will be a while and a lot of passport stamps between here and there. It looks like you get around as well though; I loved your New Zealand trip report!

    Justin –

When are you going to India? Is the appeal that the Mahseer is some kind of really awesome fish or just that it is a great excuse to go fishing in India, or both?

I just happened on a couple of short biographical films on Jack Gartside. Never knew much about him other than he designed some flies. After watching these and reading your blog, makes you wish you could live your life over again.

    Hey Zach,

It’s both. I have some other things I need to do here too, but am totally stoked about the mahseer. Just flew in to Delhi last night and will be headed north into the himalaya on Sunday. Mahseer are supposed to be like a cross between grass carp and bonefish, except huge, and predatory. We’ll see! Look for an update soon.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

    Hey Zach,

Yes, I am behind on this! Actually had your earlier email flagged and just yesterday started to get that list pared down to something halfway manageable. This is what happens though when I am running around all over the place, the correspondence starts to back-log. I truth as I type this now I am back home in Argentina, having just arrived from the Peruvian Amazon which is where I went when I left India, and so far none of that has made it even to the blog! I’ll catch up though.

Mahseer are friggin’ amazing fish. And strong. Even the five pounders can and will take you into backing. Sometimes they are super spooky and selective; sometimes they charge anything that comes near em’. A lot of the time I was sight fishing too and that was awesome. Here’s some pics to tide you over – I hope to have the blog post up soon and will make a post with a link to that.

Man – when are you coming down here to fish?

Whooooaoaa. Those are all cool. Can’t wait for the blog post, Justin. I really like the look of that mahseer in hand in the last shot.
