MemberI’d consider a trip to Eucumbene and fish the river mouth. Get in touch with the guys from the Alpine Angler in Cooma who will have up to date reports http://www.alpineangler.com.au
There are also some clasic Monaro streams not far away but I’m out of touch with them – try the forum at http://www.flylife.com.au for some up to date information – just ask the question.
If you manage a trip to Sydney get in touch with Justin Duggan http://www.sydneyflyfishing.com.au for some flyfishing on one of the most scenic harbours in the world.

MemberThe A4’s punch well above their weight in both action and build quality for Scott’s entry level rod. I would describe them as medium-fast with good recovery. Great components – they look very similar to the S4.
You didn’t mean the S4 did you, which is their premium rod? The S4 #6 is my favorite all-round trout lake rod.

MemberI like to use saddle patches for my salt water flies. I get them from Wapsi. Often times there is left over hackle from what I use to the bottom of the stem, so I keep these and use them on my woolly buggers.
They turn out like this:Best Regards,

S4906/4 NZ Special & X2S908/4 – a couple of favorite rods.
The Clouser Deep Minnow and Au Sable Wulff – two long time favorite flies.
Mates – (aka buddies) – even if they look a bit wierd.

MemberJuan, I think you’re right in that the Hardy reels are designed in England. They certainly look great and I’ll be getting one for my #10 (8000DD).

MemberI have to agree with James. I’ve just taken the 906/4 and 908/4 to a fly tying weekend for demonstration and everyone loved both rods. I described the #6 as a softer S4 and definitely a better performer than the A3. Still medium fast action but well behaved and so easy to cast. I had this one rigged with an SA Air Cell Supreme II WF floater which performed well. In fact, for the $$ I think Scott have delivered some seriously great fishing rods. The #8 was quite different in action – beefed up in power and slightly crisper to cast. What a flats rod! I had this cookie rigged with a Bermuda Triangle Taper Ghost Tip WF8F/I which is a great combination.

MemberPretty much all I use – particulary on my person while out fishing.
I have some of the smaller C&F boxes with interchangeable panels that I swap around fully loaded. Its a great system – I have panels loaded with emergers, carp flies, hoppers and bream flies. Although if I revisited the idea I’d just buy the boxes with fixed panels.

MemberThat’s Bionic Braid, Zach. Too expensive for me – I use FINS or Platil braid in 30 or 50lb. I just bought 300m of Platil braid for AUD$25 bucks which I thought was a pretty fair price. I’m not sure of the number of strands but I’ve been using it for years. 300m of Bionic braid is AUD$99 😮 which I think is ludicrous, despite being a good product.

MemberAnother vote for the GPX on the Scott S4 #5.
Comparing head weights is one thing, but are you casting an equal length of line each time you test the different tapers?
Another long distance line to consider is the Barrio GT140 which has an 88′ head ( :o) http://www.flylineshop.com/barrio-fly-lines.html
