MemberI buy my rods depending on the fishing that I do most. I started out with the main weights (oddly enough, they were even numbers). Over time I have filled in a few blanks ;D… But at the end of the day all of my rods suit a type of fishing that I do regularly. Some odd rod weights, like #7 and #9, have snuck in and are now firm favorites.

MemberThe best flies are always the simplest…
A white bead head Salty BMS is a great pattern for ‘eye’ feeders.
Didn’t see any mention of Spooks…?
A tan hammerhead has gotta be used on bonefish by someone!
Try this version of Muz’s Salty BMS for milkfish:

MemberGreat choice! The S4 will do it all, but will be particularly sweet in that casting range.

MemberMike, the E2 in heavier weights are a bit stiffer than the S4’s. The S4’s are great all round rods capable of fishing well at all distances – they are fast and powerful yet retain the Scott feel. Super fast recovery makes them smooth and clean to cast. The S4 would suit a wide range of casting styles. That’s not to detract from the E2 – I like a stiffer rod myself and the E2 action suits me (being more used to salt water fly fishing). I particularly like their 9’6″ #6 and 9′ #7 models.

MemberI go to a Au Sable Wulff variant in size #14 most of the time.
If I don’t get any rises, I’ll put an olive Seals Fur Scruffy nymph on as a dropper – about #12.
If the grasshoppers are around, I’ll use a Stimulator #12 as the dry, and still hang the nymph underneath.
Here’s my variant on the Au Sable Wulff:

MemberHi Will,
Its always good to be shown these things first hand. If you have a club near you that holds fly tying evenings, or a shop with tying seminars – go and have a look. Failing that, DVD’s are real good (the added bonus is you can pause them…) and of course, books that have step-by-step instructions. Get the best tools you can afford, and invest in quality materials. These all help you become a better tyer. The internet is a good source of information and there are several sites where you can download movies and step-by-step tying instructions. Good luck!

MemberMy Scott WW806/3 arrived today… What a special little rod that is! I’m stoked – can’t wait to go catch some bream and estuary perch on it! It’s just what I was looking for to use in my canoe! Well worth checking it out with a line, Mike.

MemberThe E2906/4 is a fantastic rod – one of the best in the range. I have the E2956/4 which has an anodised seat and full wells grip. It’s stiffer and more powerful IMO than the 9′ model – which suits me just fine as I got it for light estuary work. Its also great for punching into a head wind.
I really like the E2 range. For the price I think they blow the competitors away.
Steve – I like the sound of the WW#6 – mine left the factory last week. Can’t wait to get it in the Yak!

MemberOh, you’ll be giving it back alright… Else you won’t get a try of the E2! But seriously, I’ll be fishing the #6 next weekend. I’ll be trying to get some shots with fish, so if I get some that aren;t going to embarress me I’ll put them up the following week.

MemberI’ve been tying flies commercially for 23 years now, on Dyna King. My first Dyna King was a Prince which did around 100,000 flies or so before I decided to on-sell it to get a vice with an adjustable head angle. I bought the Dyna King Professional 3 years ago and haven’t looked back. I tried an early version of the Dingo and thought it was a dog. (sorry, couldn’t resist the pun!). But seriously, I don’t think the Dingo is in the same league as the Dyna King.

MemberI live in Patterson Lakes, Melbourne, Australia. 39 years old, on my second marriage, daughter from my first marriage who just made me a grandpa.
Joined the Australian Navy at 15 and picked up a trade. Worked as an electrician now for 24 years, mostly in an industrial sense, currently in aviation ground power.
Started fly fishing at 13, tying at 16. Have been a commercial tyer now for 23 years. I write the salt water fly tying column for FlyLife magazine (50th issue coming up!). I am proud to be a part of Scott Fly Rods Pro Staff.
I like to fish for anything I can get access to. Mostly salt water where I live, but I enjoy escaping to hassle some trout, bass and other freshwater natives from time to time.
I wish I had more time to fish…
