Anyone out there fish a scott e2 rod?

    #21189

Beechy has a 9’6″ 6wt E2 that he says he is going to let me try…

I’m sure he will reply tonight, he told me it’s a great powerful rod sounds like a Lake/Estuary rod

The 6wt. E2 is a perfect smallie rod. My buddy who guides for them here in Indiana uses an E2 all the time when out guiding. I believe he has a versi-tip on it, so to answer guestion it will handle them just fine.

    I use the 10 foot 4wt E2 for nymphing.

I wasn’t sure from your post whether you wanted a 9’6wt or shorter, so I went checking our stocks and the E2 manifesto. Comes in a 9′ 9’6″ and a 10’er. We have the ones on either end

Ive cast quite a few E2s, but hadn’t fished the 6, and was going to borrow the boss’ 10’er on Tuesday, fishing sinking lines and streamers for trout, but he was catching fish and I couldn’t get it out of his hands.

He prefers the extra length for picking up the full sink lines, but depending on the waters your fishing you might want the shorter length. It will still handle it.

Now if you did want the shorter length, for small streams, seriously check out the Scott Warmwater rods, I cast the 6wt at the denver Show and it was a ripper, for smallies. Has lots of grunt for clousers, crawdad patterns etc, but not to the extent of overkill. But at $625 its higher than a E2.

    Cheers Steve

The E2906/4 is a fantastic rod – one of the best in the range. I have the E2956/4 which has an anodised seat and full wells grip. It’s stiffer and more powerful IMO than the 9′ model – which suits me just fine as I got it for light estuary work. Its also great for punching into a head wind.

I really like the E2 range. For the price I think they blow the competitors away.

Steve – I like the sound of the WW#6 – mine left the factory last week. Can’t wait to get it in the Yak!

Hey Chris, that 9’6″ I’d like to play with too, but we don’t have it in the shop.

Interestingly enough both Scott (Warmwater) and Sage (Bass) came out with rods this year for similar concepts both are just under the length limit for US pro bass fishing tournaments.
The are headed for the pro circuit, which is sure to get some comments.

But the Sages and Scotts are very different in character.
The Sage’s really are design to throw BIG flies, including in windy conditions, into heavy cover and get the fish back to the boat and into the livewell.
As a largemouth rod these are stout. The smallmouth designated rod throws its own 290gr WF floater,so its no smallstream 6wt. Morelike a serious 8 or a 9wt. The 330gr Largemouth is a brute probably best as an 11wt. Groovy retro amberyellow yellow blanks (who said babypoo) with red wraps.

Personally I really like them, fun to cast, try them underhand for tossing under trees mangroves etc. I was doing demos with 2/0 Whistlers, 1/0 Clousers and 2/0 Jiggies in the indoor tank in a Bass Pro a couple of weekends back. With no backcasting room I was roll casting these big flies 30′ easily.
Even more fun when I got a 30# striper to eat :).

These 4 piece rods comes with a case, tailored flyline and rod for $350. But its not a set up for a newbie caster. You need a bit of experience under the belt.

The Scott’s are more of a mainstream stick, in this “out there” class. They are still a big fly streamer/popper rod but are closer to regular actions. Its not so big a leap to go from your everyday 8wt to the 8wt in this class.

There are 3 rods all 3 piece 7′ 11.5″ _ a 6, an 8 and a 10wt. But at $625 its a serious investment, and as these are part of the Scott concept series there is no guarantee you will be able to find them after this year

The 6 actually is a great small stream smallmouth rod, its going to be so easy to toss small Clousers, crawdads etc etc. Or you can throw streamers for trout too.

I have to say I like them both for different jobs
    Cheers
    Steve

I was thinking of the E2 6wt as my all purpose big water smallie rod.

My Scott WW806/3 arrived today… What a special little rod that is! I’m stoked – can’t wait to go catch some bream and estuary perch on it! It’s just what I was looking for to use in my canoe! Well worth checking it out with a line, Mike.
