I didn’t get a say in it. My wife booked me a ticket to watch the baby lady as she has 3 WEEKS of business down under in May.

I’ll have plenty of free time and want to get out and so some fishing. The city is based around a man-made lake. Not sure what type of fishing I’ll get into.

I plan on bringing a switch rod and my Tenkara rod.

    Anyone been there?
    Any connections?
    Places to eat?
    Spots to fish?
    Any info wold be appreciated.

    Hi Rob,

Lake Burley Griffin is the man made lake in the middle of town and the prime species here is carp.  Whilst they are fun to catch, if you are looking to sample some of the regions trout fishing then you will probably be better served getting out of town a little.

The Cotter and Goodradigbee rivers are about within an hour of of town and may be worth a try.  Alternatively, you could head out a little further an fish the Snowy Mountain area, plenty of smaller streams to give the tenkara a workout.  There are also quite a few guides operating in the Snowy region which should make things a little more straightforward.

If you decide to spend a weekend out of town, I would suggest checking out Lake Crackenback resort – has all the nice things to keep your wife busy while you explore.  Or perhaps something in the town of Jindabyne – another town on a Lake.

Good luck and enjoy your visit, Malcolm

I’d consider a trip to Eucumbene and fish the river mouth. Get in touch with the guys from the Alpine Angler in Cooma who will have up to date reports http://www.alpineangler.com.au

There are also some clasic Monaro streams not far away but I’m out of touch with them – try the forum at http://www.flylife.com.au for some up to date information – just ask the question.

If you manage a trip to Sydney get in touch with Justin Duggan http://www.sydneyflyfishing.com.au for some flyfishing on one of the most scenic harbours in the world.

    Best Regards,

    Beechy
