Does anyone have any info on what new rods are going to be released by Scott?

    Tim –

You can read the tea leaves and know that their A3 series is due for replacement this year, but the specifics have not been released yet.

Thanks Zach.  The replacement of the A3 series has already been announced down here (http://www.manictackleproject.com/scott-a3-rods-closeout/), but no info yet on the new series.  I’m in the market for a light switch rod, so I might hold out and see what they release in the new series.  When’s the show this year?

I’ve never laid eyes on a Scott rod. I’ve only seen videos. Looks like a great product. I’ve put owning one on my to do list.

    Zach,

I love your theory on fly rod design, and I tend to agree completely.

I have a theory that this comes down to the physical build of the designers and their casting styles.  Big burly guys like Jerry Siem (Sage)

Not sure about that – the TCR is ‘faster’ then the TCX – maybe the designers are getting older ?? 😀

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

“Both sides of that split though have been going toward lighter, faster graphite that can both bend deep and handle a lot of power application, and those rods tend to be both better fishing tools and able to lay out longer amounts of line.”

They’re being driven toward some similar designs these days, David.  The TCR may have been the high water mark of the split in design philosophies.  Remember the RPL+?

But generally speaking, Sage and Loomis make stiffer and faster rods than Winston and Scott.

Dave Z…I think you left out “made in Korea, and a cheap price to fit technology/materials used” in your advertisement for Red Truck rods. But I do agree, the HP Series were awesome. I have to say, after fishing the S4S next to my older HP and STS rods, I prefer the S4S. It’s lighter, stronger, and tracks better. That said, the HP and STS rods blew away the S3S and X2S in my opinion. I just wish Jim would make an old school fiberglass tarpon rod…now that would be cool.

Well, we have some cool stuff coming out next week at the New Orleans Show and I hope you guys and gals like retro hats and super cool rods. There are two new sticks that will have folks excited 🙂

I could always use a cool new lid to cover the poor crop of hair growing on my middle aged hair farm. Be sure to share some pics from the show. I am eager to hear what new offering will be available.

    Curtis –

Plan to go over to FlyRodReel.com; I’m going to be liveblogging from the show for Fly Rod & Reel magazine at their site.

Thanks Zach- I actually have a pass to the show but I go back to work to start the new school year on the 16th. The kids start school on the 18th. IT just wouldn’t be proper for me to bail on the kids on the first day of school. That would surely send the wrong message to the kids and to my boss. The information I have from the IFTD lists a ton of vendors at the show. You guys have fun. I will enjoy the view from my PC.
