Sorry to dredge up an oldie however I now have a better laptop albeit a couple of years old MacBook Pro 2.4GHz is iMovie as good as you need or is there a better “cheapish” software I’d be better using?

Thanks Aaron.  Zach, give me a shout if you like, I have some material from a powerpoint I presented at the FFF conclave in Helen I presented on building wooden drift boats I can share.  The forum mentioned by Chris is where I did most of my original research.

Hey Allan, are drift boats tough to build? I enjoyed time rowing a glass Hyde in April and have been dreaming of rivers to drift ever since. Australia doesn’t have many drift boats to check out and the one I used is in another state. I have reasonable skill’s (making Bamboo rods is another interest) and I believe all the tools, I think a wooden (ply) model should be achievable.

Hi Zach, its a collection of stories of a similar theme I believe, “wildside collection” they have been previously printed in hardcopy. I figure you guys haven’t seen to many editions so might be all new to you. I don’t know if they plan to use new material in this format.

So no not a direct re-print of a given edition a “best of” if you like.

    Opp’s sorry about the hijack…

Sharks, hmmm, one wonders how big and what kind…

and only 30km off shore, give me a yell if you need a hand 😉

    Yep I’ll be there Monday.

Southern’s… geez I’d like a crack at them, what size are they expecting? The run here has been hard to gauge due to the bad weather. I’m still waiting for my first Tuna trip of the season after a season missed with the damn knee.

JT I wanted my FFF CCI, so I got numbers together, arranged the MCI’s and sat the test, 3 of us passed the test.

Often you need to run with things for yourself, I don’t know what the availability of testers is over there but one MCI flew in and the other drove near 4 hours each way to test us.

Australia has a small Fly Fishing community but we seem to have a great network of contacts. Peter are you going to Cressy next month? Paul Arden will be there all week.

Thanks guys, looks like I’ll need to keep that in mind when I update the family PC in the next few months.

Welcome, Boyd.  What kind of fish live around Melbourne – Murray cod?  Trout?

    Zach

We do have Cod very close to where Boyd lives, but we just don’t tell him where they are ;D

I use a physical filing cabinet, and can’t imagine having enough tying stuff to need a computer program to track it.  That said, you could probably download a Wikimedia free package and put it on a local computer set up to run an internal website (Macs and PCs can both do this; for PCs you just have to run a program called Apache first to give it a web kernel to run in).  Then you could build your own cross-linked Wiki of your stuff, organized by keywords.  I think it’d be more elegant than a spreadsheet and it could grow organically over time.

    Zach

😕 If only I had a filing cabinet full… Maybe I’ll down size one day :-/

One of the best things about my fly tying crap is delving in and finding out what’;s in there,. I’d hate having a computer  tell me first!;D

I agree Clark, I used to use it and it didn’t help me, except with hooks Why the hell I have no Black Magic F16 and F14 I’ll never know ;D

Go the messy tying room, Muzz Wilson taught me well :-/

in reply to: LOOP fly gear #37869

Seriously nice gear, we get a fair bit of it here in Melbourne Austraila, for some reason they don’t do much in the way of 9wts (9′) but otherwise they have a great range they both look and cast well and are very well priced 🙂

in reply to: Fly Fishing Poll #31469

I guess Bluewater is my current thing but I’m happy just fly fishing for anything :-/

LOL I hope someone tells the Pommies we have bigger Croc’s and lots of snakes  ;D

Anyone get a Jellyfish sting? One of our party got a Bluebottle sting adjusting the sea anchor last weekend, boy did he squeal  ::)

in reply to: Hey Mike (Heero) #30569

Someone mentioned price, Loop’s gear is cheaper here in Australia than say Simms as an example, and when your showing some one how to cast or fish, that favourite, faded, thread bare lucky shirt isn’t really a good look 😉

Go the check 😀 Orange has been done to death ::)

in reply to: Hey Mike (Heero) #30546

The checked jacket looks great in the flesh, pity I have a Simms G3, the Loop checked outdoor shirt is sweet also 🙂

You know want to DA 😉

in reply to: Orvis Bamboo rod. #30448

DA, I think Ray Brown does evaluations in Australia, no doubt Nick T could help as well 😉

Have you been to Nicks yet??
