MemberThe checkered pattern breaks up your outline so you can sneak in closer to the fish.*

The Itinerant AnglerHey Dave –
While I would almost certainly never wear the checked coat, personally I was happy to see it at the show. Â Why? Â Because every time I go to put on my waders and wading jacket, I become Tanny McTan. Â There is so little willingness in the expensive outdoor products industry to go out on a limb, it makes for complete repetition in product lines.
Think about it. Â Practically every single fly fishing wader or jacket is some shade of tan, light green, or maybe grayish. Â It’s a very limited spectrum. Â Yes, we want to avoid spooking fish, and yes, that limits the applicability of bright colors. Â But are patterns–all patterns–necessarily forbidden? Â Don’t your clothes have some patterning to them? Â Most of mine do.
I am glad Loop is willing to break the ice. Â

The Itinerant AnglerJust to check, I typed in “wading jacket” and then hit the Images tab on Google Images. Â Here’s what came up:

Gee, think we’ve reached a singularity? Â The only exceptions I see are the Simms Orange jacket and the Loop jackets. Â And honestly, where’s the science that says a solid green coat is less visible than a different color? Â What if your river doesn’t have any trees right beside it? Â Wouldn’t true camo or sky-color make more sense?

MemberI have caught some awfully nice fish wearing the most obnoxious bright orange jacket known to mankind.

MemberI am willing to raise the funds so that Mike can have said jacket. Â Please send me a PM if you are willing to donate anything towards this cause. Â I will send you my address or paypal account information.
We will get there…………..do it for Heero!
Your money would be better spent improving the life of some poor, African, child soldier.
I thank you for your thoughts, but I am not a worthy recipient of your charity.

The Itinerant AnglerThere are definitely fish that are spooky enough to react to bright colors.

MemberBy wearing a loud jacket or shirt, you are just letting people know that you can cast really-really far.
