    Hi guys,

A friend of mine has asked me what a rod that his father left him would be worth second hand and because it’s bamboo I have no idea.

It’s an Orvis 7’6 5 wt. ‘far & fine’ in the tube and as new – knowing his father, maybe even unused.

Any ideas what he should be looking to get for it or what it might have cost new ?

    Cheers.

Good day, David. You might check out
    http://www.classicflyrodforum.com/

They have a section on appraisals.

I’d suspect the rod was a $600-800 rod depending on the time frame of when it was purchased new. I don’t think Orvis is making that model any longer.

don’t know much about the bamboo pricing
however, from my days in fly shops, we’d ask this question first “how and where has it been stored for all of these years?”

temperature and moisture seemed to be a big factor when someone brought in a bamboo and it had ether been warped or dessicated to the point it was no good.

let us know what price someone quotes you

    Hi,

Maybe this site will help (lists Orvis rods and approximate prices):

Both of the sites indicated above are by Sante Guiliani, one of my all time heros.

Thanks guys, I will pass the information on..

The rod does have 2 top sections.

With the storage, the father would have been across proper storage, but his son might not know, he’s got in in the closet in it’s rod bag & tube at present.

I’ll point out to him that he should look into it.

DA, I think Ray Brown does evaluations in Australia, no doubt Nick T could help as well 😉

Have you been to Nicks yet??
