MemberI use Orvis Depth Charged 350 grain 30’ head on my 7 and 8 wt rods. It’s a great line and you can get it on sale if you look long enough. I highly recommend an integrated line no matter what brand.
It will take some time to get used to and if you are not in a boat you might be disappointed. The running line floats a little but if it is in the water it will limit you’re casting distance greatly.

MemberCarter Sierra had some double barrel three piece DB Dunn cases for cheap. I use then for my three and four piece rods

MemberJust my opinion but I wouldn’t spend a ton on a rod I was going to throw Clousers with. The high end blanks are usually very thin walled and won’t sustain a clouser impact well. With that said the Loomis GL3 6wt is a very sweet rod for the money. TFO, St Croix, and Cabelas FT, also comes to mind for a tuff but nice casting rod. Just something to think about.

MemberThe Cabelas FT 8wt has tamed a few fish for me. It casts a sink tip quite well and can be found on Ebay for under $200 often. They are made in USA, by St Croix I suspect. I’ve replaced almost all my factory rods with customs except this one. I just don’t think I can build a better rod for what I have in it. It’s not one you hear alot about but a great rod for the money.

MemberSounds good Zach! I’ll be ready.

MemberI was fishing for both, but yes I was pretty sure there were some Striper in this deep pool.
BD kept telling me he saw it and it looked like a big Brown. You can imagine the effect that comment had one me. I had already lost a giant Brown once this year and here I was again with no net!!! It was tense for a few min but once I saw Stripes I could relax and enjoy the battle.Mike Anderson
MemberYour younger Bro is a hell of a guy. That’s a trip you guys will talk about for years to come. Thanks for sharing. I’ll be calling my brother to schedule a trip soon thanks to this post.

MemberI use my integrated shooting heads almost as much as my floating lines. Once you get used to it and see how easy to cast and effective they can be, you will to. Bite the bullet and get an integrated line.
Ebay had Orvis Depth Charge for $19 but they have sold out last time I looked.

MemberGlad you liked em. I use an Olympus C-765 point and shoot special… I’ll be buying a Nikon D70 or a similar Cannon here pretty soon I hope. I might have to part with my Pings to get it done. :'(

MemberIs it Frog Hollow? I would love to fish Frog hollow but I don’t think it was appropriate to do a Tournament there.

MemberRumor is that Burkheimer rolls the rods for Dan Craft. I build and fish Dan Crafts and the 8’4″ 3/4 is one of the sweetest light rods I’ve ever handled. You just have to throw it to understand what I’m talking about. Its an amazing rod. Unfortunately the patent was bought and they are no longer available from Dan.

MemberMine looks an awful lot like a St Croix.

You haven’t fished with BD yet… The cool thing is that he usually only hurts himself.

MemberThe gear snobs won’t admit it but yes Cabelas is the best outfitter in the business. I buy the Cabelas name when I can and usually save big compared to name brand. I have been 100% happy with everything except a pair of Cabelas hiking boots which they happily refunded my money when I told them I didn’t like them. I also have an FT rod, mine is an 8wt and it’s a sweet rod. I pulled a snake guide out of it a few weeks ago (totally my fault and a long story) the eye ended up jammed half way into my finger, I was having a day… I pulled it out and fished the rod for the rest of the day.

MemberNice fly. My deer hair spinning leaves alot to be desired.
Mike Anderson
MemberDunfly I LOVE that fly! The colors are my favorite. You know what they say, if it aint chartreuse it aint no use.
Here’s a bunny fly I use Frequently.

Mike Anderson
MemberPaul that’s a good pattern in White too. Also you can use some saddle feathers for a tail as an alternative to Bunny tail and a cone head also works for a heavier fly.

MemberIn Jan. my Hodgeman Guide-Lites will be four years old. I have nothing but good things to say about them.
