MemberI have been trying to find a pattern for the Zuddler for a while now, and I can’t find one anywhere (a detailed one anyway).

The Itinerant AnglerIt’s a complicated tie and I’d need to look up all the steps, guys, but it has a zonker strip back, a tinsel-dubbing silver belly, some red tinsel for gills, rubber legs, a cone head with a spun deer hair head behind it.

Memberpancho,
could this be a substitute for the zuddler? i’ve tied these up in black, olive, white & even leech red. they work extremely well and are extremely easy to tie! you might want to give’em a shot. i have been successful with them. let me know your experience with the pattern. ciao and tight lines!
here are the tying instructions:

How about this one on a little larger scale?

MemberPaul that’s a good pattern in White too. Also you can use some saddle feathers for a tail as an alternative to Bunny tail and a cone head also works for a heavier fly.

MemberDunfly I LOVE that fly! The colors are my favorite. You know what they say, if it aint chartreuse it aint no use.
Here’s a bunny fly I use Frequently.

The Itinerant AnglerHere’s an email I dug up. This may help.
Zach
Zuddler Minnow
Hook: #2-6 4x long shank, heavy wire
Wing: Zonker strip, 3/8″-1/2″, choose the thick-coated ones
Tail: Pearl Krystal flash
Body: Dubbed lite brite
Weight: .030 lead wire/Tungsten substitute
Head: Size large size silver or brass cone
Gill: Red Lite brite
Legs: Sz. Medium rubber
Collar: Spun deer hairInstructions:
1. String conehead, mount hook, and start thread above point of hook.
2. Tie in 4 strands krystal flash extending 3/4″ off the back of the bend of the hook (important: keeps fly from fouling).
3. Cut Zonker strip 2x hook length. Cut end of tail to diamond point. Tie in at the midpoint of the strip, right above where the Krystal flash is tied, pulling the fur back to make the wraps on the skin alone.
4. Wrap .030 lead wire over the middle 50% of the hook, leaving the front 25% and the rear 25% wire free.
5. With the thread still at the flash/zonker strip tie in point, dub liberally lite brite and palmer forward to form cigar shaped body.Sep 20, 2006 at 1:40 pm #55239robert_lee
MemberZach – do you have a profile pic of the fly?
Sep 21, 2006 at 9:57 am #55240scot
MemberThank so much Zach I have been tying them very similar except I have been using a tungston conehead and .025 lead. On the white ones I had a hard time finding white body hair had to use belly hair didn’t like nearly as much as the body hair. They are a killer fly had a very large brown on the white one last Sunday on The North Branch of the Potomac in Maryland.

MemberFished The North Branch of the Potomac in Maryland yesterday used all zuddlers water was low and clear but the browns were in there. Caught this one on a brown zuddler about six inches long very similar to the one Zach just posted.
