KEH is close to you (Marrietta Blvd./ Atlanta) so you can pick your items up at their warehouse and save shipping if you like. I asked them about this and they said no problem. They did emphasize that it’s not

Alaska fishing is all about timing. The salmon show up when they show up. Everything else revolves around that fact. If you are targeting the big rainbows…..you want to time your trip to fish eggs and flesh.
No one will be able to predict the exact dates of the salmon run….but the guides and lodge owners can get pretty close.

This summer…when I head to Alaska….I’m thinking of wearing my waders and boots on the plane to save weight and space in my checked bag. I haven’t seen any rules prohibiting this

I’ve had several recommendations for Captain Benny Blanco (http://www.fishingflamingo.com). I spoke with him today and he said the same regarding tarpon….although he did say not to rule them out. He said snook fishing should be good.
He said we could make a run to Islamorada if the tarpon are bayside chasing mullet. Looks like I’ll book with Captain Benny but thanks for your input.

I have the Axiom 6 weight and use it exclusively for chucking big streamers. My line of thought was to get a relatively inexpensive

I had to snicker when I saw the Boulder Boat ad in the most recent edition of The Drake (page 29). The ad states, “No Wood To Maintain”.
I quit getting worked up over folks that perpetuate the myth that owning a wooden boat entails hours and hours of sanding and varnishing. Mine is ten years old now and still has the original paint and varnish. She’s got some battle scars but still going strong. I call it character.
If you ever owned a wooden boat…and took care of it….like Dave says…store it out of the sun in a dry place (my garage) it will last a long time. I can’t comment on handling since this is the only drifter I’ve owned….but can speak about maintenance or lack thereof.
I’ve been through that trestle in my boat….and you’re right….it’s tight. The oars are useless as well….you have to pull them in to avoid snappage. I’m sure their is an extra tightening of certain muscles….when you are in a rubber raft…..and you are inches away from splinters and rusty railroad spikes.

Joel…aren’t you worried about a stiff breeze or spillage relieving you of your hard-earned flies? I used to use a Wheatley-style box but kept losing too many flies to my clumsy fingers. I’m using ripple foam style boxes now….and foam lined with the little slits. They are Clif’s and the C&F boxes.
