MemberI had a grandson of Elhew Snakefoot, named him Parker after the shotgun I was toting at the time. He’s gone now, but that dog was smarter than most people I’ve ever ran across.
Had 3 Boykins, Zack, Sid and now Max.
find something you like and rolls off the tongue if you plan to hunt/train the pup. My 2 cents worth.

MemberI personally think two syllable names work better when you are giving that loud call/yell.

MemberI agree the two syllable names sound much better, especially those ending with a vowel.
My suggestions:
Trico
Hatch
Sallie
Humphy (could have all sorts of meanings with male lab and would probably get the instant veto from your wife)Whatever you name him, congratulations and I’m sure your 3-year old will love the addition.

MemberG’day Eric, I have a German Wirehaired Pointer and her name is. ‘Gillie’. I named her after my Great Grandfather who was a Gillie in Scotland.
I have had Labs and German Shorthairs, she is the best dog I have ever had. A great allround dog here in Southern Australia, no fear, great on both deer and birds.Cheers Boydo.

I had a Boykin named Pete who was a great hunter/retriever and an even better fishing dog.
I like to stick with one syllable.
David, where did your Boykins come from? I had looked for some time to find another but could never find a litter with both parents having certified hips/eyes. I have settlled on an English Cocker pup which I hope to pick up in a couple of months.

MemberThere are some good ones that i like so far… Winston, Flip (although that one seems hard to say when calling the name), Sage
A couple other ones – Fin, Simba (lion).
We’ll have to see what he looks like tonight when we get home.

MemberA tip from a guy that has trained a lot of dogs: Simple, clear, preferably one syllable names are highly desired for a working dog. When I was training retrievers for people I would strongly encourage them to either name them that way, or if for some sentimental or other semi-practical reason they had one of that gosh-awful long, multi-syllabic pedigree names – that are really only useful in the tracking and bragging rights of dogs, then come up with a nick-name and stick with it. (How’s that for a terrible sentence?)
Fly fishing oriented names that popped to mind:
Ausable (Aussie) I know it violates my advice, but it would work.
Lee
Wulff
Ted
Thumper (Ted William’s nick-name)
Swing
Dropper (Drop. Sorry I find it an hilarious name for a Lab.)
Creel
Felt (In memory of a fading awesome sole.)
Strike
Lefty (Do I have to explain that one? 🙂 )My mind is running with a bunch more, but I’d better quit.
Enjoy the pup!

MemberGreat suggestions guys… the current front runners are Drake and Fin, although my 3 year old is convinced Horseshoe and Buddy would make great names!

clark reidMemberProbably best if you don’t call him Humpy! ;D
You can judge a man by the size of things which annoy him.
