    Hi Tim
Great question and when I was in the States, to be honest, I saw very little evidence that any education on invasive species was taking place. Even here our education on biosecurity is limited.

We have now got Didymo established throughout our Southern waterways and have basically established a regime of cleaning and drying between waterways. Apathy and a lack of environmental responsibility still lets us down with some but we are trying.

    Check out
    http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/didymo

The research reports cover a lot of what to do and Kathy Kilroy has spoken around the world on the topic.

I agree with Zach re other vectors of transporting and actually submitted against the felt sole ban in NZ for similar reasons. I was strongly of the opinion the horse had bolted and not being able to wear felts was a safety issue as much as anything.

The other river users don’t quite have the same stake in clean rivers as anglers and these algae are terrible.

John, you might be surprised how long the stuff survives in neoprene and socks. Its such a simple organism but terrible.

Remind me closer to the clave Clark and I’ll try to bring it.
He writes about the Mataura and hooking a beast he estimates around 14lbs.
Havn’t seen one of them in there for a while

Sorry about the last few pics being a bit out of focus.
    Thats my error.

Heres an underwater shot by Peter

and Morsie slayed the rainbows this day, mainly on big dries

Hope you enjoy. Our season has been pretty good with plenty of water in the rivers. I have a new camera coming so I hope to provide a bit more summer fishing overtime.

When I left Morsie he was catching bait ย ๐Ÿ˜‰
Not really but just showing that not NZ trout are lunkers. ๐Ÿ™‚
(Thanks to Chris for the photo)

The saltwaterflyfishing in NZ is fun too.
Its summer here at the moment and opportunities abound.
A Silver Trevally, A Snapper and a Yellow Tail King.
The first fish on a fly Morsie had tied for me 24hours earlier.

Rich Miller…I’ve got to side with Zach on his thoughts of the G2. ย If I were going to go to the “dark side of graphite” (EEEKKKK! ย HA…) a Scott G2 would be where the search would start and end. ย

    I’ll third that call.

I’ve taken recent possession of a G2 8’8 4wt and its holding its own amongst a host of other great rods.

If you get frisked at the border it wasn’t me who said you’re a “West Island poacher who should be banned from our fair shores” ๐Ÿ˜‰ ;D

Beautiful day here today but has been snowing in the deep South for the last couple of days.

Not all our fish are big ๐Ÿ™‚

Please note that NZ has banned all felt boots so if you are coming to NZ leave your felts at home as they cannot be worn in our rivers.

I recently used the Simms rolltop lumber pack Dustin and it served pretty well including a few swims. It is not 100% waterproof however and I did have a little water leak in. Very comfy to wear all day.

    Well….
    I live in New Zealand

    There was this guy…
He was doing a thesis on Churches around the world
Every church he went to had this big gold telephone at the back and apparently if he put in 10000 bucks he’d have a direct line to God…

When he came to NZ there was no gold telephone….
In one church there was a wee black wind up phone with a sign that said 20 cents a call……

He asked the pastor what’s the story with that phone?

Pastor said “its the direct line to God”

“But its only 20 cents” said the guy

“Yep, thats right son.. round here its a local call” ๐Ÿ˜‰

Tim, fishermen are welcome to NZ anytime and we are a land of immigrants too.

    Awesome post Neal, thanks.
    Tearmender is definitely the glue!

I’ve been mucking around with rabbit and its quickly becoming my material of choice with streamers. Your flies have inspired. Thanks
