Check out the outhouse in the background. I am proud of that!

Phil BrnaMemberFirst, end of Aug early Sept is the ABSOLUTE best time for large rainbows in Alaska. Many of us who live here live for Sept.
Phil BrnaMemberI agree. Well done.
Phil BrnaMemberYes, you can slow it down by upliining one or even two weights depending on the rod and the line. Its done all the time. You did not mention which rod and weight you had.
Phil BrnaMemberSteve, I have not done the loop but I haved the Brooks River several times aas well as the Kvichak. I am probably going to fish some of the rivers flowing into Lake Illiamana this fall and that is Bear City.
Phil BrnaMemberI have spent lots of time over in that part of Alaska, and bears along those streams are a big &^%$ problem if you are not prepared or if you are in the right place at the wrong time. However, good fishing awaits.
Phil BrnaMemberI order from several like Feather Craft, Cabelas and others, but the one that stands out for good quick service is saltwaterflies.com
Phil BrnaMemberOn the dali l. the white rabbit is not glued to the black. I do use tear mender for gluing rabbit but in this case, I think the fly has lots more movement without doing so. I also add UV minnow belly or uv krystal flash and it seems to attract more fish. Also, try using colors other than white. This fish was caught on a dali llama.

So was this one.

Phil BrnaMemberThis is a very popular fly for big rainbows here in Alaska. My biggest fish on one this past fall was 29 inches. I am not sure if there is a tutorial but check http://www.alaskaflyfish.net.
Phil BrnaMemberIf you are seeing the tarpon at night, try some poppers!
Phil BrnaMemberYou won’t have any problems storing your gear in a garage, heated or not.
Phil BrnaMemberI have used ultra hair also but I don’t think it has as much movement as the farrar or slinky flash. And yes, these do tangle after a fish or two.
Phil BrnaMemberI tie almost all of my clousers with either slinky flash (or whatever the current name is) or the newer Farrar blends. These make great clousers which withstand teeth and these materials are lots more “moveable” in the water. The other advantage is you can tie long clousers on big hooks. Some of my deep water tarpon clousers are tied on 4/0 hooks and are 6 inches long.
Phil BrnaMemberPost your question on http://www.danblanton.com and also search his archives.
Phil BrnaMemberI have both and I use the fleece windstopper about 99.9% of the time.
Phil BrnaMemberNice report. I have always wanted to go there, fish redfish and eat that good Louisiana cajun food. Can you provide more specifics on your arrangements, like place, guide and cost?
Phil BrnaMemberYou are correct. They just do it by habit.
Phil BrnaMemberNeal, there are no rules for tarpon in boats in Belize, like in Florida.
Phil BrnaMemberI have been using a big LL Bean bag with a rain fly that goes over the top. Great bag if you use the rain fly.
