I concur on the two previous yielding the hoe posts. While I don’t think it is fair to stay in the same place and monopolize a hole all day, if someone is there before me, they get to decide when to move.
Zach, those eyes are bead chain. I then tie in a piece of mono in the front. wrap it around the eyes and tie in behind. This forms a base for the tuffleye or CCG. Those are finished with tuffleye. I then tie in the feathers and flash. These are supposed to be good tarpon flies, acoording to my buddy who has used them in Belize. I think they’ll do well on other fish to.
The top fly is a sardina with tails for rooster fish and jacks. They catch tarpon too.
The middle fly is one the guides in Belize call the Kiss-of-Death. I tie this with DNA holofusion, ezbody, and tufflleye flex. It’s clearer than the photo shows. I have caught several dozen tarpon on this. I tie it in lots of colors.
Just a quick comment. I use Gama, Owner, and Tiemco for all of my fresh and saltwater tying needs. I mostly use gama (95%) but I like the 600SPs for tarpon and other saltwater fishies except the point has a tendency to roll back if it hits coral or rock, so I use them for big deep water clousers where I’ll never hit bottom. In those cases where coral is an issue I think the owner aki or gama tarpon hooks are superior. I like both of those for mangrove tarpon. For the majority of my saltwater flies I use gama SL12S or SC15 (depending on my mood I guess). For my big articulated rainbow flies I use gama B10 stinger hooks.
Excellent work! I keep thinking I should try something like this but I am too busy fishing. Maybe the solution is to have someone come along on one of my trips (Alaska, Belize or Baja) just to take photos.
Nothing is 100%. In this case, its all about minimizing risk. In the case of Alaska fisheries, I will do whatever I can to reduce risk.
On the dali’s I tie, the long strip is attached to the rear hook just behind the eye. The short strip is just attached on one end (behind the cone or lead eyes). I like the biggest lead eyes I can find, and the fish don’t know its not a cone, amazingly enough. To attach to the rear hook: 1.
