Gamakatsu has DIRECT online ordering available!!!  This is a big deal.  No more worries about specialty ordering the Gama’s in weird shapes/sizes (e.g. EP flies tend to employ unusual Gama hook sizes/shapes).  For me personally, this is beyond helpful.  Check it out:

Neal have you ever tied on the Tiemco SP hooks? For a big fly that needs to penetrate the 600SP is in a class all on it’s own. Bill Butts turned me on to them couple years ago and I’m convinced they improved my hookup by at least 60% from the Gama’s. If you haven’t tried them you should.

I use both. TMC 600SP is awesome!

You can judge a man by the size of things which annoy him.

I use the smaller size 600SP in some of my large tube flies, and they are awesome. The only thing that I like to use Gamakatsu on are my intruders.

Just a quick comment. I use Gama, Owner, and Tiemco for all of my fresh and saltwater tying needs. I mostly use gama (95%) but I like the 600SPs for tarpon and other saltwater fishies except the point has a tendency to roll back if it hits coral or rock, so I use them for big deep water clousers where I’ll never hit bottom. In those cases where coral is an issue I think the owner aki or gama tarpon hooks are superior. I like both of those for mangrove tarpon. For the majority of my saltwater flies I use gama SL12S or SC15 (depending on my mood I guess). For my big articulated rainbow flies I use gama B10 stinger hooks.

Another + for the 600SP. It was the only hook I could find to consistently hold these loco palmetto bass we fish for here in the spring.
