MemberI’ve owned alot of boats but I settled on this one as THE boat to cover it all. It’ll run in 3″ and has been all over the mid south and even the lower Keys.

Cameron MortensonMemberDang…this board has got some great looking boats!
Scott…I can’t help but think that your wooden drifter is the “Chris-Craft” of wooden drift boats.

MemberMike,
How do you like your Indian River canoe?
Feb 8, 2010 at 5:05 pm #42258chad copsy
MemberZach,
It is an Uncle John kit. You basically get a sheet plan and some instructions as well as cypress pieces for the three ribs the stem and stern and the rest is at your discretion. I choose oak and some pine all wrapped in fiberglass and epoxy. The good people at southernpaddler.com have plenty of people there to help if you have questions. it was a blast to build and I look forward to another project like a River dory type boat for the Little Red river and the White etc. probably with a small out board to get upriver.

all you need is a pile of wood, epoxy, fiberglass etc.

a couple of home brews

And a friend to help

MemberEric, we don’t need another drift boat in western Pa, so don’t even think about it.

MemberZach,
I rekon it took about 40 hrs give or take. I put a few added touches that made it take a bit longer than a weekend and I’m a little OCD on details.Dave,
I also found it to be unstable at first and you don’t want to try standing up. Initial stability is good and secondary is all but non-existent. Only problem with building one is you don’t get to paddle it first. I have found the sweet spot and have only had one close call so far. I use the chair I made from some plans and it works great . I also made one that sits even lower but found after some practice the taller one is more comfy. I stay closer to shore and always wear my PFD. It is still fun to get out and tool around for fish and only drafts like 2 inches. In hindsight I would have made the sides a little taller and the beam a little wider in the center by adding a fourth rib. This one weighs 59 pounds is 15 feet long and I can car top easily.
