MemberDon,
That is a sweet picture!! I was almost in a trance when I first saw it.Feb 9, 2010 at 7:06 pm #42270don mccue
MemberThanks Kieth, that pic was taken on the upper Madison a couple springs ago. Drake never did learn to row, but he was a very good fishing buddy. I lost Drake last spring, but I just can’t bring myself to replace his pic in my avatar. I have a new pup now, a black lab, that may be able to tow the bow when he swims.

Mike McKeownMemberThis thread’s got me wanting a boat, again…
Semi-ridged inflatable, about 18 foot with a 50 or 60 hp outboard, that’s what I need.

MemberDon,
I am sure that Drake and Steve would have gotten along smashingly.

The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –
I’ve got a question about driftboats.

MemberI bought mine outright. Since it is a guide boat I got a very good deal and it paid for itself very quickly.

MemberThey seem to be in that ‘tweener’ category for financing.

MemberI will go ahead and throw mine up even though it is not finished. I was inspired by Andrew and Zach’s epic thread on their project boat. I found a 15’4″ not too far from where I live and started some mods. I added rod holders through the from seat and a front casting deck. everything is glassed in. Now I need to finish sanding then get to painting. Oh yeah, I still have to find a motor. Will be used for bass fishing (fly rod only) and I hope I can haul it down to the LA marsh to chase some redfish. Here are the pics:

MemberI picked up these two project boats in the last few months, I can’t wait to start working on them. The canoe was free but it needs all the wood trim replaced, and a new paint job.

Dear God your name got long Lando! How is my boy Steve doing and how come he is not chewing on a rock or a sucker in that picture?

Joel ThompsonMemberHey guys –
I’ve got a question about driftboats. Are most people saving up to buy them all with one check, or do you get financing some how? And if so, what’s the best type of financing to use?
Zach
All the guys I know save up and by them with one check. You should never need another boat unless you want to “trade up” and if you are loyal to the company you bought your first one from they take pretty good care of you. 😉

MemberCan’t seem to find my photo of my Mitzi 15 with about 8 inches of snow on the poling platform, or I’d post it. It predates my current laptop, and must be in a pile of CDs somewhere.
I’m betting most guys with flats skiffs don’t have much opportunity for such photos, but as far as I know, I own one of two flats boats in Kansas.
It looks pretty much like my buddy’s former boat:

My philosophy is, if you can’t pay cash for a boat, you’ve got no business buying it.
