I only have 2 patterns that I swing for steelhead, I only play around with the color of the materials and size for given water conditions and weather condition.

I was just watching Modern Marvels on the History Channel, and I thought it was as good a time as any for another food thread.

I love salsa, on everything. Perhaps that is a by-product of living in Texico. But this pepper is the hottest known to man, rating at over one million Scoville units:

It is the Bhut Jolokia. Personally, I am not man enough to handle even half of this pepper’s punch, but I wanted to see what you guys like for your favorite salsas. and some recipes would be great too. Anyone willing to share a unique or simply awesome home-grown salsa recipe?

    Thanks guys!
    D.

What, no comment about the Yankee that served you store bought salsa along with hamburger soup.

    Hey Bill,
Your guide was Jaime, yes? He and I went to guide school together many moons ago. I have never met another human being that knows more about fishing than him. You lucked into a good guide my friend. Got any more pics?

    D.

I used a few of Jamie’s classic lines last week when we were back in Michigan salmon fishing. The one about holding the monkey’s tail is always a big hit.

Being very honest with you Dave some people get treated just the way they deserve. I have been on both sides of the counter and I have seen jerks from both places.

Thanks guys this has been very interesting to me I can see a few things I need to improve on. I have also learned a bit about how those not in business think. If there are other shop guys that want to share some thoughts or ideas off line I’d be willing to pitch in.

I agree with John, but I think it should be noted that not everyone pays the same price from the manufacturer.

A fly shop is no different than a bike shop, cigar shop or any other widget shop that is hyper focused on one subject. The best selection of items and the people that know them will generally be found there. Yes you are going to pay a bit more  it’s either worth it to you or it’s not.

With all due respect to Drifter, most guys will ask “is this best you can do on this rod” My answer would be something like I can take say $50 off the rod, give you your choice of a fly line for it or give you $100 off a reel.

Most of the larger companies have a section in there application about adhering to MSRP or MAMP although they give a lot of leeway for sales and promotions. Rods and reels are the big shiny things that bring people in to look, but the money tied up in the inventory does not make for a

The price on the sticker may be the same but everyone with a pulse gets coupons from Cabela’s pretty much the same thing as selling at a discount.

Ohio dove starts today also sunflowers are the big attraction throw in some loose gravel areas with a water sourse and your set. My gun of choice is a 20ga auto  chocked ic or mod with 6’s or 7 1/2’s. We also use spinning wing or flapping wing decoys “Edge” has a nice selection. Looks like I will have to wait till Friday afternoon for my first outing but early goose starts today too could be a tough choice.

On a $700 rod the shop is going to make $350 versus $200 on a $400 rod.

I would like to see where you got the break down that shops make a true 50% on rods.

Great.. now the secret is out, everyone will want to get into this business.
