Ok it looks like I need to make sure I have some egg patterns, stone fly nymphs and some buggers. That should be easy! Anyone ever try the old San Juan worm? Worms are in about every stream or river I have ever fished so it seams like a possibility?

Alan, if that is your first attempt at a water color I am impressed! You certainly didn’t make it easy for yourself did you.
And Cameron I had no idea! It looks to me like you should get back into painting! Nice work! Maybe you could paint up a food shot for the February Arts and Crafts! Ha!
For the rest of you who haven’t posted anything yet lets not let this post die! Zach I am sure that you have taken a great shot or two in the past couple of weeks so lets see what everybody has!

Welcome Brett! Great post! I realy like your second picture with the fishes head half in and out of the water.
Keep the pictures and posts coming. Some of us have very few fishing options this time of year and we live through those of you who can still fish!

It is a nice reminder to be cautious when you encounter a whack job, but I refuse to live my life in fear of this type of person. There is nothing more spiritual than getting away alone in the wilderness. I have always felt when my numbers up, my numbers up! That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t fight tooth and nail to get away from someone like this. I am just not going to let myself worry about ever encountering him in the first place.

I agree with Dave. The Z-Axis does feel like it is a weight bigger than what is stated on the rod. I do however feel that the longer rod gives you a little more of the “feel” that Dave is looking for. I just picked up a 10ft 8wt in the Z for steelhead fishing and I really like it. Now it does not quite have the feel that my 9’6″ BIIx 6wt has, but the thing is a rocket launcher!
I would try a lot of rods in the 9’6″ before you take the plunge. You will be very surpirsed on how different they all feel.
Oh by the way the longer rods are mending machines! 😉

Nice Brownies Clint! I caught a little brookie up at the cabin in a little patch of open water! No picture but I had a witness. 😉 The cool thing about it was I caught it on a dry. Great way to start out the year.
Lando the Montana fishing license expires on Feb. 28th.

My title is actually “Fly Fishing Guide and Director of Outdoor Activities”. If I was the manager of this ranch nothing would ever get done because I would want to be out fishing! 🙂

Thanks for the info Greg! I know we are flying into San Juan and that is about all I know for sure. I will get into contact with my sister to see what she has planned for us. I checked out your website as well and it would be fun to try and hook up. My wife is pretty good with a fly rod as well so I am sure she would want to give it a shot as well. Neither of us has much experience in the way of flats fishing. I have been once, but all I caught was a cuda and a jack fish or something like that.

Spencer there is no way that is a Winston Rod if Lando actually drew that picture. (Personally I think the art work is way above his abilities :)) I know in the past when I have talked about the Winston BIIx the Hippie Man refers to it as a wet noodle.
I think if we can get him to cast the new BIImx he will change his mind!

Nice fish Leonard! Are you fishing mostly flat water or moving water? What is your approach? Do you have some special light or is a poke and hope approach? As you can tell I am intrigued to say the least. Let’s here how you do it!
