Joel ThompsonMemberGood Luck Neal! Make those casting lessons pay off!
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberSounds like a good book Lando! Can you get us the good guy discount? ๐
Did you grow up is Salt Lake? Sure do like that Polygamy Porter!
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberNow that right there is funny! ;D Good eye Rusty! That one slipped by everyone!

Joel ThompsonMemberThe biggest difference between the two lines is that the Rio Grand is a half size heavier. The tapers are a little different as well. The taper on the Gold is a little thicker and longer which helps the rod load at closer distances and makes it very easy to mend.

Joel ThompsonMemberOk Cameron. Riley wanted you to know that he is no longer sporting the huckleberry color. He asked me to take this photo of him this morning and show it to you. He is now an Adventure Dog! ๐

Joel ThompsonMemberI tell you what Cam. If Zach can come up with some bling for the winner than I will throw in four or five nights stay up at my cabin! I would like to see an indepentant jury of some kind so everyone (including me) could have a shot at this! I like this idea a lot! Zach chime in and give us your thoughts!

Joel ThompsonMemberThose are great photos John! This is my third or fourth time back to view them and they get better each time! We have tons of Raptors at the ranch I work at. I have often tried to capture their beauty but my 300mm lens just doesn’t quite get the job done.
I am with the other guys and would love to hear your techniques.
Keep up the good work and keep sharing!

Joel ThompsonMemberTravis I got to cast the Axiom a few weeks back when the TFO rep. stopped by for a visit. I casted the 5wt and liked it. I thought for the price you couldn’t go wrong. That said I did think the rod felt heavy. I have been spoiled by the Z-Axis and the BIIX I guess, but I wouldn’t hesitate picking up one of these rods. They are a lot of bang for the buck in my opinion. If they made it in a 10ft 8wt. I would pick one up for a steelhead rod!

Joel ThompsonMemberI think that is a great idea Cameron! I would need the whole six months as things are kind of icy this time of year for me! ๐ Of course I could take a chain saw to the ice up at the cabin and make a hole big enough to fly fish out of….hmmm….that could be a winner! I’m in!!
Joel ThompsonMemberMike,
I have not cast the Ridgeline series from Airflo, but I have cast the new Rio Gold and I will be relining all of XP”s with it this year! I own 5 XP’s (client rods) and the Rio Gold preformed very good with this rod. I have not tried the Sharkskin yet but have heard good things.

Joel ThompsonMemberHey Guys! Zach has done a great thing here at our request. He has designed a tee shirt and then made it available to each and everyone of us. Now it is our responsablity to get our money to him as quickly as possible. Let’s not ruin Zach’s gesture of kindness because who knows what kind of cool stuff he will come up with in the future!

Joel ThompsonMemberFirst off I would like to thank Bob Bolton for sharing his book with me. I have only read a few pages so far but I intend to read them all real soon. Thanks Bob!
Second, thank you all for your comments. I can see I will probably go with a ten foot eight weight. Still not sure on the make of the rod yet and still trying to pair it with the right reel. Keep the advice coming as it really does help.
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberCameron that midge box on the left is extremely impressive too me! Now I know what I am going to put down in the Christmas list thread! ;D
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberMike,
Believe it or not we actually have about 20 inches up there right now! And there is more on the way. Thank God! I hope it dumps all winter long this year! Maybe if we have a little more water than last year I can talk you and Cameron into coming back so he can fish with his sweet new rod!

Joel ThompsonMemberI hate hearing stories about rude guides! It gives us all a bad name! That is why I think there should be a manditory school that guides should have to go to so that etiquette can be pounded into their brains! I went to a guide school and that was a huge part of the school.
The best thing a person can do if they encounter something like this is to try and find out who the person guides for and or get that persons guide lisence number. I know in Montana if you report a rude guide to the board of outfitters it is a very serious thing for that guide.

Joel ThompsonMemberSexy would be an understatement! Damn Cameron! I want that reel!! BTW what is your gear budget during the year??? You must have one VERY understanding wife! I can’t wait to meet this lady!
Joel ThompsonMemberTwo things I didn’t like about that video Yuhina. One, it made me sea sick and two I was not impressed with the release of the fish. Otherwise it was entertaining.
Andrew I don’t think you have anything to worry about as you have obviously already thought this out pretty well. That said I would make sure you bring a spare rod just incase of user err.
Joel ThompsonMemberTim,
I have a few trips planned. Two in Idaho on the Salmon and Clearwater and one in California on the Trinity. I will probably fish all of the methods you mentioned. I have always had my best luck on the swing but have also done well using an indicator. I love to chuck and duck but it has been my least successful method.
Ten foot huh. Why?
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberAll right here is the deal. I have a blackberry. Unfortunately it goes everywhere with me incase work need to get in touch with me.
