As a relatively new fly fisherman last year I traveled to Winter Park in the summer.

Being a local to the Northern CO scene, I’ve seen plenty of guides on the water and have never been subject to, or witnessed anything like you described – but I’m not at all doubting what you experienced.

I have fished that water quite a bit and in my experience, your experience is the exception, not the rule.

I hate hearing stories about rude guides! It gives us all a bad name! That is why I think there should be a manditory school that guides should have to go to so that etiquette can be pounded into their brains! I went to a guide school and that was a huge part of the school.

The best thing a person can do if they encounter something like this is to try and find out who the person guides for and or get that persons guide lisence number. I know in Montana if you report a rude guide to the board of outfitters it is a very serious thing for that guide.

    Nice! Joel

My friend went to Nepal for mountaineering years ago, he told me that the guild system there in ecotourism/mountaineering are complicated and the organizations there play a very important role to maintain a high quality/ safety of the ecoturism system. In short, they have different levels guides with different skills. You pay different price for them too.

Not sure if this is applicable to the fishing guides system here. But, there are certainly some newbie guides and some veterans in our system. For myself, I would willing to pay more money for the most experienced and polite guides…
