Joel ThompsonMemberZach is it time for the second “Annual” photo contest??? Entertain us Zach and let us know what we are going for this year!
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberRick,
You could spend an entire year fishing Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho and never be disappointed! I know that my dream is to someday fish EVERY river in the state of Montana. Been here for almost 41 years now and I am not even close to being half way there. Guess I better get busy!
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberBring it. What are the rules?
No need to worry about Cam. He said this same thing last year and then didn’t even submit a photo… 😮 That’s right buddy I am calling you out this year!
🙂
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberYes, even in the dead of winter the cabin can be tempting! This is the photo I sent Kevin to remind him that he needs to start planning for the New Year. This was taken on New Years day.

Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberIf someone asked me that question I would immediately say the TFO NXT package. For around a 175 bucks you get a rod, reel, rod & reel case, fly line, and even a leader. Now I know this is over the $100 price tag that the person wanted to spend but they are going to get a really nice casting rod that comes with a great warranty and all they will have to do after purchase is put the rod together and tie on some flies and they will be ready to go!
It is a no brainer if you ask me.
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberI like what you are thinking Mark. I do believe it is that time of year again. I have lots of snow to play with again this year!
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberHey Phil that really stinks. Believe me when I tell you it is American Anlgers loss not yours. You were one of the best the magazine had. I loved reading your articles and I always felt you connected very well with your readers. You will certainly find something new as you would be a huge assest to any company.
By the way Phil I am looking for someone to work for me this summer in the outdoor activities department at the ranch. You would get paid to take people fishing, hiking, ATV riding…think about it Phil.
Joel ThompsonMemberWell it will be two weeks this coming Friday since I have had a chew. It has not been easy but even with the stress of the holidays I was able to make it through. Now that said I was not around anyone who was a chewer either so I have not been truly tested yet. With a little luck and a lot of wheel power I hope to keep this going.
Thanks for all the good advice everyone. It has been a very interesting topic to me.
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberGlad to hear that Ryan and welcome to the board! I look forward to seeing some pictures of fish caught with that new rod!
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberI second what Bob said. Let’s see some of your handy work Jim! Oh, and welcome to the board!
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberCongrats spider fans. You played a near perfect game and deserved to win.

GO GRIZ!!!!
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberThis could possibly be the most depressing topic ever posted on this board. I think we need to have a smily face that is holding a gun to it’s head.
I blame the media for making this situation out to be more than it really is. They have caused fear in the minds of the people and fear causes people to think in an irrational manner and so what could have been only a scratch turns into a gaping wound.
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberHow much for the medium?
$120 & $240 plus shipping.
Joel ThompsonMemberYes Grant. I have one medium left in both.
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberGo GRIZ!
Joel ThompsonMemberNeil I am very surprised! I distinctly remember you asking someone in a post last year if they had a chew can in their pocket and warned them of the dangers of starting such a bad habit. I guess you were just speaking experience…
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberI see where you are coming from now Zach and to be honest I didn’t take into consideration the diversity of your advertisers.
I would just hate to see a great site like this compromised by too much advertisement. I feel like in this day and age that the people in the fly fishing magazine industry (or any magazine for that matter) are too afraid to say what they REALLY feel about a companies product because they don’t want to miss out on the all mighty dollar. If you ask me it is just part of the pussification of america where we fear calling a spade a spade.
That said (and I have learned this the hard way) it needs to be done in a constructive manner and not with a bunch of name calling. If a rod sucks simply point out what you feel the flaws are in the rod. If a reel is not up to your standard point out what you don’t like about it. Not every piece of gear out there is great like the magazines and advertisers would like for us to believe. I would just like to see someone who has the guts to say how they really feel about something and not worry if the advertising dollar is going to be there if they do.
Just my two bits. Sorry to everyone if I highjacked this post to express this. It was not my intension.
Joel
Joel ThompsonMemberJoel –
First of all, none of these companies is sponsoring *me.* I am not on any of their “pro staffs,” nor would I accept an invitation if it were offered. I have a responsibility to cover everyone in this industry and I take that seriously; whether I like a company’s employees on a personal level or simply don’t know them, I still view it as my job to be objective about their products.
Zach
Zach you sort of contradict yourself with this statement from your original post.
Big day today; first Cloudveil, now Orvis.
Joel ThompsonMemberHow does Scott and TFO feel about this? Are they no longer your sponsor?
