MemberAs someone has mentioned – the end of one venture initiates the start of a new one. I’m new here, but would still like to express the best of luck to Phil, and may 2009 be as awesome, if not more, than what your run at American Angler was …

MemberHey IA Photographers:
Last Thursday, I learned that my tenure as editor of American Angler will end December 31, 2008. Like a lot of folks, I got bit in the ass by a horrible economy and tough economic times for the fly-fishing industry.
So, we started this cool flickr group a little late. However, I will continue to maintain the group—now called the Fly-Fishing Archive—for future use. I’ve already got a few irons in the fire, some of which will require great angling photography.
I’ll keep you posted.
Have a good holiday,
Phil
Tough news to get Phil, no matter the season. You’re a class act, and I’ve had interactions with editors that weren’t *anything* like those we’ve had with you here.
I suspect you’ll have good things coming your way soon – and hope very much you keep us posted.
Meanwhile, if you’re ever in need of getting some fishing in, Texas is a fine place, and I can hook you up. (yes, the pun’s intended)

Like everyone else, I was really sorry to hear this news.

Joel ThompsonMemberHey Phil that really stinks. Believe me when I tell you it is American Anlgers loss not yours. You were one of the best the magazine had. I loved reading your articles and I always felt you connected very well with your readers. You will certainly find something new as you would be a huge assest to any company.
By the way Phil I am looking for someone to work for me this summer in the outdoor activities department at the ranch. You would get paid to take people fishing, hiking, ATV riding…think about it Phil.

Ben CochranMemberI am sorry to hear that for you Phil. I really admired the way that you opened the magazine to more of an interactive resource to the subscribers, including members of this BB. I hope you know how much respect people have for you, including myself!
My best wishes for you and I look very forward to your next chapter. I remain excited about your tremendous value improving another resource of knowledge, education and public awareness, for us all.

MemberThanks for the kind words, everyone. And for the job offer, Joel.
It looks like I’ll continue to be involved in fly-fishing editorial in one way or another, so I don’t think that this is the end of our little experiment.
I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks again,
Phil

Michael PhillippeMemberKeep you chin up guy! A fellow down the road from me got fired from an editor’s job at a high profile magazine at Rodale Press a few years ago. Tried to make a living as a freelance newspaper writer. In his spare time, he wrote a book about the yellow Lab he loved so much. Called it “Marley and Me” ….and the rest is history….
