I used to put together 1 hour podcasts but the amount of work is exponentially greater to do that.  Much more splicing and re-checking and having to wait for it to compile.  The 30 minute time limit is to make things humane for me.  For every half hour you hear, I have spent around 4 hours on the podcast.

    That’s what I was guessing.

I had the pleasure of test casting two of the prototype blanks ( a 3wt and a 4wt) at Tom’s shop this summer.

I usually just cram in an energy bar and some water, but lately I have been thinking about how much food adds to the experience.

Despite my own better judgment, I will join the fray, given I was one of the guys involved in the previous discussion about Landon.

Toby8myShoe…RMNP is a great place to kick around for a few days.  The Big Thompson in Moraine Park is easy water and there are a few other streams to check out as well.

There are also some neat streams in North Park in Colorado and just over the border into Wyoming.

    Sage advice from Mr. Mortenson.

    Abe,

Thanks for sharing a great story.  As a hobby bamboo maker and a native of MN, I love to hear great things about Dave.  Everyone I know who has a rod from him is completely impressed.  Jerry Kustich (a 20+ year bamboo maker at Winston and now Sweetgrass) says that he thinks Dave is one of the finest makers alive today.  No small praise.  You definitely picked a great maker, enjoy it.

    Cheers,

    Jay

    Thanks for kind words guys.

Actually, it’s not a big deal; really more of a nuisance.  I keep up with the schedules exams, etc and catch this stuff early.

I just wanted to remind everyone to protect your skin on the water.  Especially the younger guys – it’s the damage in your 20’s that catches up to you later.

Here’s the scary fact – when I shaved my hair off tonight the sink was littered with GREY hairs!!!  AAGGHH.

Just finished The English Major.  I highly recommend it, at least for those who, like me, are on the up side of middle age.  It’s the story of a 60 year old man whose wife leaves him.  He sets off on a driving trip to “find himself” (my words, not Harrison’s) and figure out what to do with the rest of his life. The book maintains the running interior monologue of Harrison’s other books, but I find the character more sympathetic and more likeable, and the book somewhat easier to read.  (Although I also liked Returning to Earth very much.)  There’s even some trout fishing.

Again, it may be the character and his situation that appeal to me, but I enjoyed the book and believe it would appeal to anyone else who reads Harrison and many others as well.

    Trigg,

    I really liked it too.

I would recommend Voodoo, or some other sort of supernatural/divine intervention.

I have 4 older G’s and G2 7wt.  Wouldn’t trade the G’s for any new rods.  (of course as I get older I seem to like older things better!) One thing I always notice is that they are about a line weight lighter in action than a comparable newer rod.  My brother in law’s 4 wt Winston LT is about the same feel as my G885/3.  Is the 6 you bought a 2 or three piece?  Don’t think it affects the action much just the carrying.  Sounds like a factory rod to me as well, since the script logo is hand done, they all look a little different, though the nomenclature is consistant.
    Enjoy it!
    John

John, your comment on the old Gs feeling lighter/softer is spot on.

Nice shots!!! the 3rd one with the clouds in the water is really good as well as the first one with the warm light. Is this public or private water where you were?

    David,
