I would hate to spent such time on a bug for carp or large mouth bass. I do not know if you have either of those where you live, but if you do I would enjoy seeing the flies you throw to them.

Thanks Gregg! Is there any pattern or regularity to when they generate on the White? If you were to guess, how many days would you say they generated in Dec.? Just trying to get an idea of if it is even worth it to make the trip. I would hate to come up there and then be stuck with high waters.

 When that happens, we may see a reversal of the slide in editorial jobs and revenues and a general stabilization of the mass bloodletting that’s been going on behind closed doors in the last two years in the publishing industry.  I certainly hope so.

Great post Zach! Very informative and interesting. So that I might better understand the situation, could you elaborate on the above quote? Is the bloodletting you refer to the laying off of mag editors and mags being turned into a one-man-show?

I use to use Aperture, but when I got CS4 I started using Bridge for organization, and it works well for my needs. As far as getting the new software you need, do you have a family member or friend who is attending any university? Or do you know any teachers? My wife is a teacher, and she is also doing her Master’s, which allowed us to pick up CS4 at a very good price. But there is one caveat to buying student/teacher software: depending on what you are getting, you may not be entitled to upgrades when they come out as you did not purchase the full version.

Yep, Broken Bow. E-mail for directions and where to stay, fish, etc. And you could go to the Brazos R. below Possum Kingdom Dam, on HWY 16, which is about 30 miles outside of Graham, TX. It has been stocked several times this season already. About a two hour drive from the Metroplex, but the camping is no where near as good as in Broken Bow.

Tim,
I am sure we probably hit some of the same waters, and I have been using the same pack Tim suggests for over a year now, with no complaints. But if you are looking for water-proof packs, this one does not have that feature. That said, though, I have never pulled out a soaking set of truck keys or a wet sandwich I put in the pack, and like Tim, I am not nice to my gear. I would certainly recommend this pack to anyone.

Looks like a fun time John! Seeing those images is certainly making me hungry. I have often wondered myself how one gets a good image around a fire, when all else is pitch black. It seems the SS would have to be so slow that one could not avoid motion blur in the subject.

Morsie, I would strongly recommend shooting color, as it will provide you with more control over your targeted gray scales.

Strongly agree with Ben. Then you could open up with some duo, tri, and quad B&W tones in Ps. The more info. the file has to offer the better.

Now, this is all based on the fact that I assume your new 7D does not have some sweet, smokin’ B&W conversion that I do not know about! 🙂

I’ve had 3 versions of the 70-200 2.8 and they’re not a bad lens, just not very sharp on the high rez cameras compared to the f4 version or any of the prime L lenses in the same range.

David,
I am not doubting your expertise or your knowledge, but could you please explain how the f/4 is sharper than the f/2.8? One of these is my next piece of glass, and I have come to value your input re. glass purchases, and many other aspects of photography.

Man, that sucks to lose one right when it is almost over. Still looks like a great time though. A buddy of mine hit the salt before it got too cold, caught a ton of Spanish Macks and brought home for some beer and bbq. ‘Spose to be good eating, but I have not partaken yet.

I suppose I can accept a different pew, so long it only concerns itself with hooch and I do not hear of Schafer sitings at the the bait-cast counter in BassPro…brothers have been disavowed for less, but being a Yankee you get one free “get out of jail” card.
