I was looking at Sid’s forum this morning, and they are saying we can fish it, but the water is high and muddy. Maybe we should go down to zone two w/ a 400 grain line and chunk some fur to the remaining big browns.

Despite my previous alliances, I have to agree w/ Neal: I will buy Uni when given the chance for the patterns I regularly tie. That being said, my typical patterns will likely vary from those of others. For me, Uni is readily available and fits a need. I tie for results and speed, not creativity.

Respectfully, I am inclined to disagree. I also recognize that almost everyone assembled here knows a lot more than I do about photo composition and creation. I do not claim to be a pro. photog., But I do have some limited knowledge, pending agreement from the Esquires assembled here, of artistic creation. If it were all about “depressing the shutter,” how would one differentiate between the weekend warrior with a point and shoot from the pro. w/ a DSLR? I have never seen amateurs add a watermark or mask to their collected on-line albums.For your consideration. And please keep in mind, back when I was “processing” often, it included stop-bath, rinse, etc., etc., Now, trying to break into the digital world as I am, I wonder if the same rules exist. So, given the digital revolution, should credit be given to the guy/gal running CS3 or Aperture after the photo is taken? Perhaps we are discussing two different aspects of creation: pulling the trigger and photo manipulation. Should said person be one and the same, il n’y a pas de problem, mais…..?

This is a damn shame, but an interesting point was made on another thread about Nature’s own method of rejuvination. I live in Dallas, and our closest trout waters are in SE Oklahoma on the Lower Mountain Fork tail-water that comes out of the Broken Bow Reservoir. It seems that that whole section of the south is getting hit hard. The LMF has been closed to the public until further notice. But, while the river is cleansed, and people are not allowed to intrude, perhaps Nature will right herself on her own.
DustyOne more thing…and anyone who has Esq. after their name, please feel free to correct me. Not knowing whether this is federal or state, I have been told the very act of doing carries with it ownership, and thereby copyright. If we scribble something on a napkin, if we take any picture or paint anything with any medium, does the act of creating not inherently give birth to copyright?

Thanks for the input. And Zach, you hit on an invaluable point: If two of us, both being photogs and fishermen, go out, and we both plan on tweaking said photos and sending them to Phil, where does ownership come into play?I agree that the composing is where the art lives, and I also think that once all of that is done, anyone could ask a spouse, buddy, or bystander to pull the trigger, w/o concerns of ownership. That being said, the literal “pulling the trigger” analogy is valid as well. The only difference with the two scenarios, however, is that I hope two hunters would not be arguing over artistic rights, or Zach, is it not referred to as “intellectual property?” But I do suppose they could very well be arguing over who gets the mount or the full freezer!

If I am going to tie a black fuzzel bugger, which color of dubbing would I use? I heard Muz say something about the dubbing needing to be a lighter shade than the chenille, but I don’t know how many shades to go down from there.

If you are ever in Dallas, call me. I will give you my credit card and drive you to Hobby Lobby. But be warned, my tying station is a complete mess. I especially liked the tic-tac idea.And if any of you think of getting the C&F hook pallettes, save your money. I bought three of them at 20 bucks each. While they are handy and light weight, the ones for streamer hooks do not hold many hooks at all. The smaller versions are much better, and I have seen some people use these small versions as fly boxes for midges and other smaller flies. The point here, as Neal illustrated, is that for little money we can get items that work much better-60 bucks for a place to hold a few hooks!

That is a nice fly! I wonder if after some color changes I could pull out some Large Mouth Bass with that one? But I will let the other guys confirm or deny that-every time I decide to spin deer hair I end up with wasted materials and high blood pressure.
DustyI hit four different lakes, tailwaters, etc. this weekend and did not catch one white! We got into carp, large mouth, crappie, and bluegill, but never brought any whites to hand. I blaming this on the jon boat hatch.

Do you know of the manufacturer who produces those knives? I do have a guide buddy of mine who carries a SOG w/ a gut-hook for such circumstances, but the blade you are describing sounds perfect: 20 lb. mono may be a future target.
DustyWhiskey soaked flies…good idea. Could be a new go-to-fly when nothing else will work. At the very least, we have something to console ourselves after being outsmarted by something with a brain the size of our pinky nail.

I figured out a long time ago that I should not drink and tie; bugs, like the woman from the bar, do not look quite so good in the morning. However, if it is cripples you are wanting to tie…pour me a dram of your finest.

I was tying some Crazy Charlies with some glow in the dark pink Flashabou. I’ll try them out tomorrow and get back with you, that is if I get a chance to even set foot in this river. Reports have been saying this river is jam packed, even during the week. I am sure tomorrow will be combat to the inth degree. I’ll need to make sure to have a knife close at hand for roaming lines.

This is sort-of off topic, but these pics reminded me of Chromasia. Did you see the tutorials he offered for CS3? Do you feel that his classes are worthy of 75 pounds for the info.?
