I know that we all frequent Hobby Lobby and craft/hardware stores and have a keen eye for little storage devices. Also, these finds are usually much cheaper than online purchases. I want to start a thread where people can post their novel ideas on how to store your materials.
I used this wine box from a Christmas present to store my bucktail (most wine stores will give these away for free)
I used this wine box/tray from Ravenswood Wine to store my packaged materials. This is a great way to divide and store and you can simply carry the tray in the car if going to tie elsewhere. The 4 dividers are perfectly matched for most ziploc style material packages. This was free at the wine store. Also, if you look closely you can see on the left that those little dubbing dispensers fit perfectly into the handle space and you can put three dispensers on each side! Note the shameless IA monitor shot.
Tic-Tac bead container, comes with 24 Tic-Tac style containers. Stores all beads/cones/eyes you would ever need. $4.99 at Hobby Lobby
Old bar tool holder used for hanging flash materials. Got this at Goodwill for $2.99 and threw away the old bar tools. Takes the place of the Oasis sparkle spinner, $29 retail.
Paint brush storage box (small), get at Michael’s for $4.99! I bought 3. They slide perfectly in to a standard computer desk drop-down keyboard drawer. Then go to Walmart and in the bead section you will find these little cheap plastic bead container briefcases filled with tons of small/medium cheap plastic boxes, you get 32 medium and 24 small containers all for less than $10. They fit “perfectly” in the small paint brush containers, dead on. Use each container to separate your hooks. The top shelf is removable as noted on the left box and you can then place it in the lid and have full view of all your hooks at once. I have one fresh water and one saltwater hook box and one for spare (would actually make a great saltwater or streamer box by the way).
I can now get all my fly tying materials on a 3 1/2′ x 2′ desk and below is my wooden feather storage chest and a few additional items. Rods and reels and a few tying books to the right.

If you are ever in Dallas, call me. I will give you my credit card and drive you to Hobby Lobby. But be warned, my tying station is a complete mess. I especially liked the tic-tac idea.And if any of you think of getting the C&F hook pallettes, save your money. I bought three of them at 20 bucks each. While they are handy and light weight, the ones for streamer hooks do not hold many hooks at all. The smaller versions are much better, and I have seen some people use these small versions as fly boxes for midges and other smaller flies. The point here, as Neal illustrated, is that for little money we can get items that work much better-60 bucks for a place to hold a few hooks!

I use to live close to a cigar store and cigar boxes work great for lots of little stuff. I also buy coffee in a can, just because the can is so useful for paint brushes. A good friend uses baby food jars for just about everything he owns. (I’m working into that)

It has been a while since I read it but I remember it being one of the best books for organization of a fly desk. I used A.K.’s same ideas for my art supplies. You all have probably discussed this book, but it can be used in a much broader way.Patrick’s way works also when you have the time.
