And Shane, if you are on the Llano, I guess you dwell amongst the TX hippies, John Michael’s turf. You should come up as well. We really should get a TX outing planned. We have grown considerably over the past year.

There is a good chance we are wetting lines in the same locales; shoot me a pm, and we could get together some time. Rarely do I see another fly-angler where I typically fish, but when I do, I cannot help but think that I know him somehow!

Thank you for the kind words. While I feel I have progressed, I know there is much more to do, and thanks to people like Neal, Ben, David A., and John B., the frustration level should stay to a minimum, I hope. I truly appreciate everyones’ insight and critiques, especially the thorough explanations that people give.
DustyHey guys. Easter came and went, and I think I was able to capture some good shots after reading all you had to offer, so many thanks to all of you.
I got the 430 EX II strobe, a decent tripod, an off-camera hot shoe cord, remote, 3yds. of crushed velvet backdrop in white and black, and a couple of white foam boards. And here are some of the results:

DustyLove mine as well. They help keep the feet warm in early spring when that tail-water cold is still around. Plus, I am not constantly dumping gravel out of my shoes like I would be if wearing sandals.

And getting shot at while in TX bars—The last time I went to Billy Bob’s in Ft. Worth, a cop got shot out front.To all you Northerners, yes, it really is called Billy Bob’s, but has seven bars, an arena for bull riding, and a stage which hosts only the creme de la creme of TX song writers/singers.
What fish do you hunt in Cali?

Be careful, Bay Shooter, some of us may very well take you up on your offer. You may have not yet noticed, but a good majority of us are Southern boys, and we will show up in your front yard with tents, kegs, and a freshly killed wild pig to throw in the ground!

Sorry bro, my condolences. I have not been there, yet. But I guess those of us whom love dogs all will. I had mine spayed last month; she was just over six months old. Thirteen years is a good amount of time, but I know in the end it never seems to be enough.To Dixie!

That first shot has good composition, but the shadow over the angler makes it a poor cover choice.
It looks much better on my machine at home; the shadow is not nearly as dark, and there is much more detail. Resizing screwed me! ;D
I have a couple images on my home machine that come to mind. I will double check them and post when I go home for lunch, noon-ish cst.
DustyGlad it worked out! I do the same with my striper flies. I use a white bunny strip, then palmer any combo of blue, yellow, and green marabou. The underwater action is awesome!

With each wrap of the marabou, you need to stroke the fibers back toward the end of the hook. Do not just wrap from one end of the shank to the other, but take the time and pull the fibers out with each wrap so they will not be tied down by following wraps. also, which end of the quill are you tying to the shank? I recommend tying in the top portion of the quill as the stem (or whatever it is correctly referred to) at the base of the marabou is very stiff and difficult to wrap around the shank.Good luck!

Very new to this myself, but I will share my initial thoughts: I immediately found the blurry mass in the foreground to be very distracting. My eye was first drawn to it, then I made it to the flies. I do, however, really like how you put the recipe on the image. Great idea! Did you shoot them on a mirror, or some other similar surface?

D.Why limit yourself to one article? If you’ve done your research, it should be easy to change the audience. This seems to me to only be efficient writing and smart business.
I completely agree w/ Scott. And I am sure others will have valid and helpful info. as well, but in the end, it might help to decide exactly what is you want this piece to convey and what you to hope to accomplish with said piece.
Can we expect to see samples?
