Wow – I’d completely forgotten about those books.  But reading your post, I had this visual image in my head…and then I googled up the name and found pictures of some book covers.  Then I remembered that, yes, I did read the “Big Red” book, and probably others.

I seem to recall really loving a book called “My Side of the Mountain”. I wanted to grow up to be an Indian, but my ancestry made that impossible so I always figured being a trapper would have to do.  But I was born too late to be a “real” trapper (i.e. mountain man).  When I found “My Side of the Mountain”, I decided that THIS was something I could definitely pull off!

Never did, of course, and now my wife won’t let me.

As a kid, My Side of the Mountain was my favorite book.

Nice bass.  How many did you get altogether?

Word to the wise,  Raccoons carry some serious parasites and diseases-baylisascaris, and Leptospirosis.   I know three vets that will not let them on their premises when people bring them in.  It is highly discouraged that folks don’t play with raccoons.

By 8am, we each had ten.  We’d lost count by about 10am.   I’ve spent almost five years fishing this river and never had a day like today.  The Tippe’ will almost always produce some decent fish, but I’ve never seen one after another.

As to the racoons, the lady offered to let me pet them, I graciously declined.  She also told me not to be alarmed if we launch at their place and a coon tried to run up your leg.  It’s only looking for cheese.   😮

After reading the article, I kinda wish he would have explained his indicator a little more.

Just picked up an Normande Daylight Anywhere at Hobby Lobby tonight after reading this thread and being tired of my overhead light/ceiling fan (that my wife would accidentally turn on while I’d be tying causing material to go everywhere).

Greg, I’ve checked out Smithgall and had planned to see about reservations but now I’ll be taking my brother who’s never fly fished so I might take Zach’s advice and stick to my original plan.

    Lost:

    • Flies that were donated to the fish gods and tree gods.
    • A big box full of flies  and I forgot to put my name on it.
    • My good pocket knife last spring.  Pretty sure it fell out in a parking lot at Jones Bridge on the Chattahoochee.
    • My good scally cap on a little creek this summer.  Still ticked about that.

    Found:

    • A canoe after a flood, returned it to a happy owner.
    • Old fishing rods, a few tackle boxes, and way too much used line.
    • A duck that got tangled in old line and had the treble hooks of an old crank bait through the webbing of one foot.  It held still as I cut it free.  That was a good find and a happy duck after it got free.
    • Hooked up with what I thought was a clump of leaves at a place in Northwest Indiana.  It was a dirty clear plastic ziploc bag with a couple hypodermic needles in it.  Used very long hemos to take that off.

I’m amazed I don’t lose more stuff while I’m out.
